Job Summary

Calling all experienced Band 5 or Band 6 Physiotherapists. We have an opportunity to further your career development by offering a Band 6 Rotational Post at Good Hope Hospital. Providing the opportunity to develop your clinical expertise in a variety of areas, with the prospect to acquire further skills in areas such as Leadership, student training coupled with working alongside different people and different services and opportunities to be a part of the department's organisation. You may or may not have decided upon a specialty area to focus your career on yet, so why not continue to add to your skill set to support any future aspirations. You will be provided with training, learning on the job and peer support throughout from our friendly supportive teams. The areas on the rotation are: Respiratory, Health Care for Older People, Acute Medicine and Short Stay. There is variety in the patient cohorts as well as working patterns.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

To provide Physiotherapeutic assessment, management and rehabilitation of patients in a variety of clinical areas at Good Hope Hospital. Working in a variety of teams that consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Support Workers. The rotations will be approximately 6 months in duration.

Required to participate in the seven day working programmes across the organisation, and demonstrate flexibility to work in a variety of shift patterns.

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

To participate in the site on-call respiratory physiotherapy out of hours service once training has been provided and deemed competent.

To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy.
  • Registered with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).
  • A levels or equivalent qualification.
  • Good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English grade C and above.
  • Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.

Desirable

  • Member of specialist interest group.
  • Attendance at Clinical Educators course.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within this speciality / within the NHS with experience of elderly and frail elderly, respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Experience of working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
  • Experience of working with student physiotherapists and assistants.
  • An ability to analyse clinical and non-clinical complex facts and situations, which require the interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
  • An ability to plan, organise, formulate and adjust complex plans.
  • An ability to supervise and delegate work to physiotherapists, assistants and students.

Desirable

  • It is desirable that the candidate will have had some experience within speciality area.

  • An ability to persuade, motivate and negotiate.
  • An ability to communicate where there are barriers to understanding.

  • Committed to developing expertise within physiotherapy and clinical speciality.
  • Demonstrate a forward-thinking and professional attitude.
  • An ability to cope with moving/manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis.
  • An ability to cope with frequent exposure to distressing /emotional situations.
  • An ability to work as team leader, as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • An ability to motivate and develop the team.
  • Able to contribute to the 7 day weekend service, extended out of hours and overnight on-call Respiratory Physiotherapy service.
