Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist ready for the next step in your career?
We are excited to offer a Band 6 to Band 7 Progression Post within our Adult Acute Inpatient Speech and Language Therapy team.
The successful candidate will be appointed at Band 6 and supported through a structured competency framework, supervision and development programme, with progression to Band 7 expected following successful achievement of agreed competencies and service requirements.
Working across Leeds General Infirmary and St James's University Hospital, you will provide specialist assessment and management of adults with complex communication and swallowing difficulties whilst developing advanced clinical, leadership and service development skills. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and forward-thinking team whilst building the knowledge, skills and experience required for future clinical leadership.
Why You Should Join Our Team
Why this role?
This is more than a Band 6 role. It's an opportunity to develop towards a future Band 7 Clinical Lead position within a well-established and supportive service.
You'll gain experience managing complex acute inpatient caseloads, contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, and work alongside experienced Band 7 Clinical Leads and senior clinicians. We are committed to developing our workforce and have created a structured progression pathway that supports clinicians to build the competencies required for Band 7 practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
