Role Overview
We are seeking to recruit an exceptionally skilled Echocardiographer at a Band 7, who shows evidence of excellent clinical ability and is eager to develop their managerial skills.
Responsibilities
- You should have an interest in both training and managing Echocardiographers and need to be keen to support the development of the rapidly growing Echocardiography Department.
- You will be part of a quality assurance (QA) programme and will be key in the review of echos performed by junior staff.
- Accreditation with BSE (or equivalent) is essential.

- Any personal research or clinical interests including ongoing postgraduate study will be supported where possible, and we undertake to develop the successful applicant further.

- This post has 12.5% R&R attached.
Department and Equipment
- There are 6 Cardiac Imaging Consultants who take an active role in educational development of Cardiac Sonographers & Physiologists and also in chairing the weekly echo meetings where unusual cases and operational issues are discussed.
- The Echo equipment used at West Herts includes 1 Philip’s EpiQ, 6 GE E95’s, 3 GE S70.
- All scans are databased and reported on McKesson (Change Healthcare) which is linked across all sites and stress echo is reported on EchoPAC.
- There are daily echo lists which include stress echo lists, both DSE and on a bike, and daily availability of TOE including 3D.
- There are dedicated Specialists valve, heart failure and complex echo clinics running across the sites daily.
- In 2018 we carried out 14500 transthoracic echocardiograms and 1200 stress echo’s annually.
