Job Summary
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for someone working within Quality Management. We have a 15-month fixed term Band 7 Quality Manager position available within Birmingham Quality (member of the UK NEQAS consortium). We provide External Quality Assessment services for Clinical Biochemistry laboratories. EQA is essentially akin to being a 'mystery shopper'. We send clinical specimens to laboratories for them to analyse, and we evaluate the results that they return, all within an ISO/IEC 17043:2023 environment.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to extend their Quality Management knowledge and skills by working in a department with a small team that has a large impact on national patient safety. We have a number of significant projects planned over the next couple of years and your experience and commitment to patient safety can help shape the projects and implementation.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
- Maintain accreditation to ISO/IEC 17043:2023
- Maintain an effective Quality Management System
- Lead Birmingham Quality Management Review
- Responsible for the development of policies and standard operating procedures.
- Responsible for the maintenance of quality improvement strategies such as problem and incident logging, audit, management of non-conformities and corrective/preventive action plans.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge where relevant to the post: Statutory Requirements including relevant EU legislation. Government Initiatives and Guidelines.
- Essential that you can demonstrate demand management and prioritising
- Experience in a clinical laboratory or related environment.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and Risk Management
- Project management skills would be an advantage

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- BSc (Hons) or equivalent in a relevant scientific and numerate discipline
- Evidence of substantial experience in quality management and in the elements of an effective quality management system, e.g. audit, training & competency records, document control
- Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency
Desirable
- Evidence of specialist training (clinical biochemistry laboratory)
Experience
Essential
- Must Be Able To Demonstrate Evidence Of:
- Experience in quality management or related role
- Undertaking a significant role on the lead up to, and during, an accreditation inspection
- Being an experienced user of the Q-Pulse (or similar) electronic quality management system
- Experience in a clinical laboratory or related environment
- Assimilating data, balancing conflicts and making a judgement on sensitive matters
- Providing effective training, education and advice
- Knowledge of quality assurance, quality improvement and quality management systems
- Knowledge of healthcare accreditation systems
- Knowledge of Data protection and information governance
- Knowledge of Health and Safety
- Knowledge of Principles of Good Laboratory Practice
- Knowledge of Professional standards, ethics and proficiencies
