Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Physiotherapist (Team Lead) to work across the Cardiothoracic service at QEHB. The post holder will support the Cardiothoracic surgery service and continued development of the Cardiothoracic transplant pathway. The post holder will work closely with the MDT to deliver holistic care including pre-assessment, prehabilitation, respiratory care & rehabilitation within critical care/ ward environments & out-patient clinics. There will be opportunities to develop the service & undertake research, with support of the wider MDT.
This is a great time to join the highly specialist Cardiothoracic Team and will offer considerable development opportunities. The role focus will be on continuing to deliver and develop the cardiothoracic transplant pathway as well as supporting the wider cardiothoracic service. In this role you will be supported to undertake significant professional development, through attendance at internal/external courses, opportunity for post grad study, excellent peer support from senior physiotherapy & AHP colleagues, & mentoring through the Trusts career mentoring offer.
The post is 33 hours/ week with applications welcomed for part time/job share opportunities

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The successful candidate will lead a team of Physiotherapists & Assistant staff alongside Clinical Specialists & other Team Lead Physiotherapists, & will champion the ethos of gold standard care for Cardiothoracic patients
The successful individual will take a lead role in the advanced assessment & treatment of complex patients & be proactive in developing clinical practice & delivering service improvement within this specialty. Significant post registration experience within this clinical area including acute respiratory skills, critical care rehabilitation skills & specialist knowledge/skills in the assessment & treatment of a wide range of pathologies associated with chronic lung conditions &post-operative rehabilitation are essential. The successful individual will prioritise & manage a diverse caseload of post-operative Cardiothoracic in-patients alongside a small population of lung transplant out-patients, to support the ongoing development of the lung transplant pathway and associated research. Keen interest in evidence based practice, clinical education & leadership is essential to the role.
Key skills for this post include confidence in communication, strong leadership, collaborative working, & a personal desire to develop. You must be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills, as a well as proactive team leadership & management skills including, teaching, clinical supervision, staff appraisals, management of sickness absence and new staff induction.

Qualifications
Essential
- Appropriate Physiotherapy or professional qualification e.g., MCSP/ BSc or MSc.
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council
- CSP or equivalent professional registration
- Evidence of commitment to advanced clinical and non-clinical continued professional development within own speciality, e.g., post registration training, management / Leadership competencies and evidence of a detailed personal development portfolio
- Relevant, accredited, postgraduate education/courses in relevant areas of physiotherapy
Desirable
- Post registration MSc modules in areas relevant to leadership & management and clinical area.
- Attended student educator course.
- Membership of relevant special interest groups.
Experience
Essential
- Significant post registration experience of which considerable experience has been within intensive care, surgery and respiratory specialties within an acute NHS organisation. To include experience of treating acute and chronic conditions.
- Experience of staff management including supervision and of development and performance management of staff.
- Significant experience in education and clinical training of others.
- Some experience of clinical/service evaluation
- Proficient knowledge and skill in the specialist assessment and treatment of a wide range of complex acute trauma patients
- Excellent knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Awareness of current evidence in Cardiothoracic physiotherapy and application to clinical practice, using advanced clinical reasoning skills.
- Good understanding of IT systems and its application to clinical practice.
Desirable
- Experience working with Cardiothoracic Transplant patients
- Good knowledge and application of all areas of Clinical Governance including Quality, Audit and Risk management.
- Understands the legal responsibilities of the profession.
- Good understanding of principles of data and statistics and experience of their use in evaluation of service delivery
- Knowledge and understanding of the research process.
- Teaching experience to university students and multi-professional groups with evidence of ability to deliver high quality presentations.
Additional Criteria
Essential
- Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area & undertake clinical analysis and reasoning skills in the assessment and treatment of cardiorespiratory patients.
- To be able to apply broad standards & guidelines to own practice.
- Well-developed specialist therapeutic handling skill relevant to this specialty.
- Leadership and influential skills, able to lead and command confidence in senior therapists, consultants, senior nurses and managers within and related to Cardiothoracic services
- Able to demonstrate the ability to select and apply a wide range of treatment options for a range of clinical presentations.
- Good verbal & written skills; able to communicate complex clinical information in a clear and logical manner to patients, colleagues and other healthcare professional concerning a wide range of clinical situations.
- Proven organisational skills including prioritisation and delegation.
- On-call skills and able to provide advice and patient assessment as a lone physiotherapist in an on-call situation
- Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and Health and Safety to meet the differing needs of patients.
- Ability to work weekends and on call as part of the physiotherapy emergency duty rota and & days ( when appropriate service delivery allows and commences).
- Strong sense of professional integrity, and compliance with Trust vision and values.
