Job Summary
Are you an experienced and motivated nurse leader looking for an opportunity to help shape the future of Rheumatology services? We are seeking an enthusiastic Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to provide visible clinical leadership across our Rheumatology and Infusion Suite teams, driving excellence in patient care, quality, safety, and service improvement.
This is an exciting time to join our service as we continue to expand and develop. Recent investment in the workforce includes additional specialist nursing roles, revised job plans, enhanced blood monitoring services, and the expansion of nurse-led clinics. These developments will strengthen service resilience, improve patient access, and support innovative models of care.
The successful candidate will lead a skilled and supportive team, overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the service while promoting a positive culture focused on staff wellbeing, professional development, and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in governance, workforce planning, quality improvement, and service transformation.
Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will support the development of advanced nursing practice and help shape future service delivery. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference to patients and staff while contributing to the ongoing development of a modern, sustainable Rheumatology service.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
You will provide visible, compassionate leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the service, supporting high standards of clinical practice, service performance, and patient experience.
You will lead and develop a multidisciplinary workforce, promoting a culture of inclusion, learning, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include workforce planning, recruitment, roster management, appraisal, supervision, attendance management, and staff wellbeing. You will support professional development and help build a resilient workforce that is equipped to meet future service demands.
Working closely with the Matron, consultant rheumatologists, specialist nurses, and wider multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to service development and transformation. This includes supporting the expansion of nurse-led services, blood monitoring clinics, biologic pathways, and infusion services to improve patient access, outcomes, and experience.

Essential
- Registered Adult Nurse on NMC register
- Health care management / Leadership Qualification
Experience
Essential
- Professional Portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- Substantial relevant and recent clinical experience within a complex health care setting or Acute NHS setting working as a deputy Manager Band 6 position including the supervision and education of junior staff/students
- Can demonstrate understanding / experience / in practice based supervision / assessment as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- Demonstrable current, recent experience of team leadership and management within the healthcare setting
- Demonstrable understanding of the management responsibility for pay and non-pay resources associated with the clinical service
- Evidence of effective multi-professional working
- Experience of being a mentor
- Demonstration of a significant contribution to innovative practice or change management
- Experience in interviewing and selection of staff
- Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice
- Demonstrate an ability, experience, passion in the following areas:
