We are looking for an experienced occupational Therapist to become a team lead within our short stay therapy team at Heartlands.
Here at Heartlands Hospital our acute medicine services are constantly evolving and expanding, and we need an enthusiastic Occupational therapist to work collaboratively with our Physiotherapist Team lead to support and develop the team to meet the ever-changing needs of the local community.
We need you to use your expertise to clinically reason complex assessment and discharge plans to facilitate early discharges and prevent extended length of hospital stays for a diverse cohort of patients. We also need support for our junior members of staff to develop their own knowledge and handling skills to further support the patients.
To further develop our service, we need an innovative therapist who wants to improve the lives of their patients through lateral thinking and sourcing new ideas and resources from local services and wider Occupational Therapy community.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
Within this role, your main duties will be to deliver advanced Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment of patients and to act as a source of expertise to not only your fellow clinicians, but other healthcare professionals both within the trust and other external services.
We will need you to be able to work effectively in collaboration with the full multidisciplinary team, including other health professionals to promote the development, planning and delivery of intervention programmes and training in this specialist clinical area. Alongside the other Short stay Team Lead you will need to work as a partnership to plan, coordinate, deliver and evaluate the therapy service of the short stay team. This will include the completion of clinical audits and initiating or participating in research within this clinical area.

Not only will you be managing but you will also need to supervise the short stay staff and students as well as offering professional supervision and support to those in the in the OPAL services.
You will need to contribute to and undertake seven day working programmes as part of the team.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Good standard of general education including English language and mathematics, A levels or equivalent
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registered with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist
- Evidence of relevant postgraduate training in specialist area
Desirable
- Registered Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
Experience
Essential
- Relevant postgraduate experience in specialist areas relevant to the post
- Experience of effective staff management and leadership
- Experience of management of adults within short stay area of practice
- Experience of Occupational Therapy students at clinical tutor and supervisor levels
- Experience of leading audit
- Experience of training staff groups at all levels
- Evidence of working effectively in partnership with others within multi-disciplinary teams and across agencies

Desirable
- Experience of conducting or being involved in audit, implementing outcome measures and/or research in the specialist area
Additional Criteria
Essential
- Car driver. Able to meet the travel requirements of the position.
