Shape the Future of Women's Health: Service Manager – Non-Elective, Emergency and Specialist Women's Services

The Service Manager role is a senior operational leadership position, providing strategic direction, visible leadership, and day-to-day management across Gynaecology and Maternity Non-Elective and Emergency Services at Queen’s Hospital, King George Hospital, and associated satellite sites.

As part of the Women’s Health leadership team, you will join a dynamic and ambitious group of clinical and operational leaders dedicated to delivering outstanding care and driving continuous improvement across urgent, emergency, and specialist women's health pathways. This is an exciting opportunity to lead services that support women with acute gynaecological conditions, maternity emergencies, early pregnancy complications, and complex specialist needs, ensuring timely access to safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care.

The successful candidate will provide strong, credible, and compassionate leadership within a fast-paced and complex operational environment. As a visible leader, you will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, building strong relationships with consultants, matrons, midwives, specialist nurses, corporate teams, and external partners to ensure seamless service delivery.

As Service Manager, you will be responsible for the operational performance of non-elective, emergency, and specialist services, ensuring the delivery of key quality, access, workforce, and financial objectives. You will lead service improvement and transformation programmes across urgent and emergency care pathways, supporting the development of sustainable models of care that improve patient flow, enhance patient experience, and deliver excellent clinical outcomes. Working closely with clinical leaders, you will identify opportunities to redesign pathways and implement innovative solutions that meet the growing needs of our population.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Us

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.

  • They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
