Job Summary

Most pharmacists have to choose: stay clinical or move into academia. This role doesn't make you choose - and it doesn't put your clinical career on the back burner either.

We're recruiting a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Teacher Practitioner to split their week between Good Hope Hospital and Aston University. On the hospital side, you'll lead clinical pharmacy service delivery, line-manage a team of pharmacists, and help train and develop trainee pharmacists - genuine leadership experience, not just clinical delivery.

On the university side, you'll lecture, run workshops, design learning content, mark assessments and act as personal tutor - real ownership, not occasional teaching cover.

Good Hope and Aston University are both easy to reach from central Birmingham by public transport. If you're ready to be stretched, supported and genuinely valued in both halves of your career, we want to hear from you.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

Split your week 50/50: clinical leadership at Good Hope, teaching leadership at Aston.

On the wards, you'll lead clinical pharmacy service delivery - screening prescriptions, reconciling medicines and monitoring therapeutic drug levels. You'll line-manage a team of pharmacists, participate in the training of trainee pharmacists, and supervise undergraduate pharmacy placements, with real scope to grow your own leadership and people-management skills.

At Aston University, you'll shape how the next generation learns: delivering lectures and workshops, developing teaching materials, marking student work, overseeing hospital placements and acting as personal tutor to MPharm students. You'll also have real scope to pursue clinical and pedagogic research in an area you care about.

You don't need teaching experience to apply - just solid hospital pharmacy experience and enthusiasm for developing others. We'll support you through Fellowship of Advance HE (FHEA) if you don't already hold it.

What You'll Get

  • A genuine split career, not a token teaching add-on
  • Structured leadership and line management experience within a supportive clinical team
  • Protected learning time built into your working week
  • Support toward non-medical prescribing (NMP), if not already qualified
  • Health, wellbeing and family benefits, including NHS discounts at retailers, restaurants and leisure facilities

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
