Job Summary

The Imaging Department Support Worker will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of a patient-centred imaging service.

The post holder will assist the Directorate's radiographic and other qualified staff in maintaining the patient environment to the highest standard and ensuring patient movement to and from the examination rooms is carried out safely, efficiently, and in a dignified manner. Where appropriate, the post holder will assist clinical members of the team during radiological examinations and procedures.

This position forms part of a 24/7 imaging service and requires successful candidates to participate fully in the departmental shift rota. Regular night shift and day working is an essential requirement of this role and is necessary to ensure the provision of safe, effective, and continuous patient care.

To ensure that the service is maintained to the best possible standard, it may be necessary, from time to time, for the post holder to be moved to alternative duties within his/her/their competence. The holder of this post will work shifts as required with an expectation to provide cover for other Imaging Support Workers' absences to meet service needs.

This role is offered on a bank (0-hour) contract. There are no guaranteed hours, and shifts will be offered depending on business needs. You can accept or decline shifts based on your availability, making this a flexible option but it may not be suitable if you are seeking consistent or full-time hours.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

  • To liaise with radiographers and/or sonographers with reference to prioritising patients.
  • To assist and support Radiographers, Sonographers, assistant practitioners, and Radiologists/Advanced Practitioners when undertaking imaging examinations of patients.
  • To communicate with patients and carers in difficult circumstances. To be able to persuade and encourage patients in a tactful manner.
  • To organise screening lists and ultrasound lists when working with Specialist radiographers/Advanced Practitioners/Sonographers and Radiologists. To ring wards and organise patient's visits to the department, and to communicate with portering staff. To contact and liaise with transport when arranging for out-patients to return home.
  • To observe the condition of the patient, and to be able to identify and employ the most appropriate and effective method of moving the patient.
  • To assist Radiologists and Advanced/Specialist Radiographers in undertaking fluoroscopy examinations.
  • To observe patients in waiting areas, reporting changes or concerns with the patient's condition to a radiographer or registered nurse immediately.
  • To prepare jugs of water/fluids that form part of the patient preparation.
  • Prepare and lay sterile trolleys for biopsies and drainages.
  • To prepare examination rooms, assist in clinical areas, and with moving patients.
  • To be able to identify respiratory or cardiac arrest and take action immediately.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
