Hospital Porter | Bank | Spire Harpenden Hospital | Flexible Shifts
Spire Harpenden Hospital is looking for a customer-focused Hospital Porter to join our team on a Bank Contract.
This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a friendly and supportive team, providing a vital service across the hospital. As a Bank Porter, you will work on an ad hoc basis, helping to cover periods of increased activity, annual leave and staff absence.
A Bank contract at Spire Healthcare offers flexibility with no guaranteed hours, allowing you to fit work around your availability while gaining valuable experience within a leading independent healthcare provider.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Hospital Porter, you will play an important role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the hospital and supporting the delivery of exceptional patient care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Transporting patients safely and professionally throughout the hospital.
- Assisting clinical teams with patient transfers to and from wards, theatres and diagnostic departments.
- Moving equipment, medical supplies and stock as required.
- Ensuring wheelchairs, trolleys and other equipment are available, clean and maintained.
- Responding promptly to porter requests across the hospital.
- Providing a welcoming, courteous and professional service to patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Adhering to all health and safety, infection prevention and control, and manual handling procedures.
- Maintaining patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Who We're Looking For
- Previous porter, healthcare, customer service, facilities or similar experience is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A professional, caring and compassionate approach.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good level of physical fitness, with the ability to undertake manual handling duties safely.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Flexible and reliable approach to work.
- Commitment to delivering excellent customer service and patient care.
