Job Description

As a Banking & Receipts Officer, you will support the delivery of core finance operations, ensuring the accurate processing, reconciliation, and reporting of financial transactions.

Working across banking, cash management, general ledger, and fixed asset processes, you will help maintain robust financial controls and provide high-quality financial information that supports business decision-making. You will work closely with colleagues and customers to resolve queries, improve processes, and deliver an efficient service.

Experience of SAP, Agresso Business World, or similar ERP systems would be advantageous, although training will be provided where required.

Person Specification

  • Process and reconcile a range of financial transactions, including bank, VAT, and payroll reconciliations.
  • Support cash and banking activities, ensuring receipts and payments are processed accurately and in line with agreed procedures.
  • Maintain accurate financial records across general ledger and fixed asset accounting processes.
  • Investigate financial discrepancies and resolve queries promptly and effectively.
  • Produce financial reports and management information to support business decision-making.
  • Deliver a high standard of customer service, responding to enquiries and requests within agreed service levels.
  • Support period-end and year-end financial activities and reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to system testing, service improvements, and change initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve team objectives and maintain service performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance operational efficiency.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience delivering finance, banking, reporting, or transactional services within a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Experience processing high-volume financial transactions while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience identifying, investigating, and resolving financial queries, discrepancies, or operational issues using sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business demands.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships and provide excellent customer service.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, to manage information, analyse data, and support reporting activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
