You will play a key role in ensuring income is accurately processed, bank accounts are reconciled, customer accounts are maintained, and financial transactions are completed to a high standard.
Working within a collaborative finance environment, you will help ensure service levels are met, support continuous improvement activity, and contribute to delivering an efficient and customer-focused finance service.
Job Description
About the Role
As a Banking and Receipts Team Member, you will support the administration and control of banking and receivables processes. The role combines technical finance activities with customer service, relationship management, and process improvement.
You will work with financial systems to reconcile accounts, process receipts, manage customer balances, and investigate discrepancies. You will also engage with customers, internal stakeholders, and colleagues to resolve queries and ensure financial records remain accurate and up to date.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in banking operations, cash management, receivables, sales ledger, or financial administration who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and customer service are equally important.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate unreconciled items.
- Process and record customer receipts and income accurately.
- Monitor and manage customer account balances, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Support billing activities and respond to customer billing enquiries.
- Process direct debit activities and resolve payment-related queries.
- Investigate and resolve unidentified income, overpayments, and underpayments.
- Support debt management activity through customer statements, dunning processes, and account maintenance.
- Process financial adjustments and write-offs in line with agreed procedures.
- Conduct credit checks where required.
- Contribute to testing activities for system and process improvements.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across finance teams to deliver service standards and business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance customer service outcomes.
- Support a positive team culture through knowledge sharing, coaching, and collaborative working.
Person specification
We're looking for individuals who can demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound financial administration skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
Successful candidates will be comfortable working with financial data, analysing information, resolving issues, and managing competing priorities within established deadlines.
You will also be able to build effective working relationships and communicate clearly with both customers and internal stakeholders.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of bank reconciliation, cash management, receivables, or sales ledger activities.
- Experience of processing financial transactions accurately within agreed procedures and controls.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
- Ability to manage a varied workload and deliver accurate outcomes within deadlines.
- Experience of using financial or business systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and provide excellent customer service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
