Job Role: Banksman

Working Hours: 4 on 4 off shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) - Average 42 hours per week

Pay: £14.80 per hour

Location: The Elephant, Elephant & Castle, London

Overview

Join the team helping to keep one of London's newest and most exciting destinations moving safely and efficiently.

Anchor Group Services is recruiting Banksmen for The Elephant, a landmark mixed-use development at the heart of Elephant & Castle. Bringing together retail, residential and public spaces, The Elephant is set to become a vibrant destination where residents, visitors, retailers and communities come together.

This is a unique opportunity to join a flagship London mobilisation from day one, helping to establish standards, culture and service excellence across a brand-new development. As a Banksman, you will play a key role in supporting the safe movement of vehicles, deliveries and contractors throughout the development, helping to maintain a safe and well-organised operational environment.

About The Role

As a Banksman, you will support the safe and efficient movement of vehicles throughout the development, working closely with drivers, contractors, retailers and site teams. You will help manage access to loading bays and service areas, promote safe working practices, and ensure operational areas remain safe and well organised at all times.

You will be a visible ambassador for both Anchor Group Services and The Elephant, demonstrating professionalism, vigilance and excellent customer service in a busy operational environment.

Duties Include

  • Direct and marshal vehicle movements safely on site
  • Ensure vehicles enter, manoeuvre and exit site safely and in accordance with site procedures
  • Monitor pedestrian and vehicle activity to reduce risk and prevent unsafe practices
  • Maintain a visible presence across the site and respond promptly to any issues or concerns
  • Liaise with drivers, contractors, visitors and the wider site team in a professional and courteous manner
  • Carry out site checks and report any hazards, incidents or breaches of procedure
  • Support the wider security and operational team as required
  • Complete any relevant records, logs or incident reports accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure all duties are carried out in line with health and safety requirements, assignment instructions and company standards

Requirements

  • Previous Banksman, Traffic Marshal, Logistics or operational site experience.
  • A valid SIA licence is desirable but not required
  • Full 5-year checkable employment history.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety principles.
  • Confident directing vehicle movements and communicating clear instructions.
  • Ability to challenge unsafe behaviour professionally and appropriately.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Customer service experience and confidence handling conflict professionally.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible approach to shift work including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Professional appearance and high personal standards.
