Company Description

Cross Keys Wymondham is a traditional town-centre pub located in the Market Place of Wymondham. Housed in a historic 16th-century Grade II listed building, the pub features timber framing, exposed beams, a wood burner, and a rear patio garden. We offer real ales, classic pub food, and a welcoming atmosphere that can be lively at peak times. The team focuses on providing a friendly, comfortable environment for guests while maintaining the character and heritage of the venue.

Role Description

The Bar Assistant role is offered on variable hours, on-site position based at Cross Keys pub in Wymondham. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Serving drinks and food
  • Taking orders
  • Handling payments
  • Providing attentive, friendly customer service to guests at the bar and in the seating areas

The role also involves:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the bar and service areas
  • Restocking supplies
  • Ensuring that health and safety standards are followed

The Bar Assistant supports the wider team during busy periods, helps create a welcoming atmosphere, and may assist with opening and closing procedures as needed.

Criteria

  • Strong customer-facing skills, including customer service and communication abilities.
  • Good communication skills and a good command of spoken and written English.
  • Commitment to customer care and ability to demonstrate this.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, as well as on your own initiative, in a pressured environment.
  • Experience or comfort with food & beverage operations, including basic food service tasks.
  • Reliability in handling cash, operating point-of-sale systems, and following hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and capacity to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Previous experience in a bar, pub, or hospitality setting is beneficial but not required.
  • Eligible to work in the United Kingdom and ability to commute to Wymondham.

Terms and hours

These posts are offered on a variable hours contract basis. Variable shifts and hours will be offered.

Salary and allowances

The post is paid at national minimum wage dependent on age. Salary is paid on the last Friday of every month by bank transfer.

Probation

There is a probationary period of three months.

Pension

The Cross Keys Public House participates in the workplace pension schemes. As an employee of the Cross Keys, you will be entitled to join one of these highly competitive pension scheme arrangements after successfully completing three months’ probation.

For all candidates, appointment depends on satisfactory references, DBS and right to work checks and, where necessary, proof of qualifications.
