Job Title: Bar Supervisor

Department: Food & Beverage

Reporting to: Bar Manager/ Assistant Bar Manager

Role Overview

As Bar Supervisor at Hotel Gotham – Newcastle, you are the creative leader and operational driver behind one of the city’s most iconic destination bars. This includes overseeing service for the bar area, the private members’ lounge, and supporting beverage operations in Siren, our fine dining restaurant.

You will lead by example, delivering exceptional drinks and personalised service, while mentoring your team, curating menus, managing stock, and upholding the prestige of a five-star venue. This is a hands-on, guest-facing role that requires flair, discipline, and a deep understanding of luxury hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise and support the bar team during service, ensuring consistent five-star standards.
  • Lead pre-shift briefings, tastings, and skills training to drive team performance.
  • Coach and mentor junior bartenders, ensuring development plans are in place.
  • Manage scheduling, attendance, and shift coverage as required.

Bar Service & Guest Experience

  • Prepare and present classic, modern, and bespoke cocktails to the highest standard.
  • Deliver elegant, confident guest service both at the bar and via floor support.
  • Anticipate guest preferences and deliver an elevated, personalised experience.
  • Maintain presence during peak hours, actively engaging with VIPs and regular guests.

Menu & Beverage Development

  • Assist with or lead in the creation of cocktail menus, seasonal specials, and pairings.
  • Stay current on mixology trends, sustainability practices, and emerging products.
  • Collaborate with the culinary and sommelier teams to enhance cross-departmental offerings.

Stock, Cost & Compliance

  • Manage inventory, ordering, rotation, and wastage, ensuring accurate stock control.
  • Monitor cost of sales, portion control, and beverage GP margins.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing, food safety, allergen, and COSHH regulations.
  • Uphold brand standards of cleanliness and safety across all bar areas.
