Barista/ Café Assistant (Part-Time)

The award-winning National Space Centre is a unique visitor attraction and education facility. We are looking to recruit talented individuals to join our team in providing the best customer service in the industry.

Experienced Barista/ Café Assistants are required to join our busy catering team working in Boosters Café.

Applicants should have excellent customer service and communication skills. You should have a flexible, adaptable, and willing attitude towards work. The ability to work in a busy environment is important.

Working Hours:

(Please note we have multiple vacancies)

  • Part-Time – 7.5 hours, Saturdays (Normal working hours are 9.00am to 5.00pm, although some flexibility of times may be required). Plus, additional evening shifts during peak periods.

Please note that this role is permanent (subject to successful completion of probationary period) and not suitable for temporary, seasonal/holiday, or term-only working.

Rate of pay is £13.24 per hour.

Job Role:

Barista/ Café Assistant

Responsible to:

Coffee Shop Manager

Overall Purpose:

To operate Boosters Café at the National Space Centre.

Fire Warden Position:

The role will train up to Fire Warden.

Main Tasks

  • To prepare and deliver all food and drink on the menu to company standards.
  • Ensure café start of day procedures are followed.
  • Operate till and cash float.
  • Help to develop the catering offer at Boosters with the aim of improving profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Replenish stock throughout the day.
  • Ensure café area and equipment are kept clean.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all café equipment.
  • To ensure that the café area always meets required standards.
  • Ensure end of day closedown procedures are followed.
  • To respond to visitor demands and deal with complaints making the decision on individual situations in line with National Space Centre operational policies.
  • Ensure that all Environmental health and hygiene legislation is adhered to.
  • Ensure all health & safety and hygiene records are maintained.

Person Specification

  • The person should have excellent standards of customer care.
  • Experience of a similar role within a coffee shop or café.
  • Food Safety qualification.
  • Good organizational abilities.
  • Excellent presentation.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Able to work well in a busy environment.
