Company Description

The Duckquiri is a local tearoom and brunch cafe known for its beautiful location overlooking Writtle Green and for its welcoming atmosphere and focus on fresh, seasonal food and drink. Team members are encouraged to provide friendly, attentive service and contribute to a clean, comfortable environment. Working here offers staff the chance to get to know friendly regular customers and to take part in local events including fairs, themed late openings (namely our monthly tapas evening) and special private events including bridal showers, baby showers, pop-up shopping events, and art workshops.

Role Description

This barista position is part-time (15 - 25 hours per week) on-site role based at The Duckquiri in Writtle. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and serving coffee, fresh milkshakes and smoothies, as well as seasonal specialty drinks to café standards.
  • Handling order taking, using our POS till system, handling money, clearing and cleaning tables and preparation areas.
  • Light food preparation on occasion.
  • Greeting guests, taking orders, operating the point-of-sale system, and managing cash and card transactions accurately.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized service area, restocking supplies, and following food safety and hygiene guidelines.
  • Supporting a friendly, efficient atmosphere by communicating clearly with guests and team members, handling questions, and addressing concerns in a professional manner.

Availability

We are looking for someone to be available for 15 to 25 hours per week during our opening hours. We are open Tuesday to Saturday 10am - 4pm and on Sundays 10am - 2pm. We can be quite flexible and fit your shifts around other commitments you may have. We will have lots going on in the build up to Christmas, with some potential events facing outside of our standard opening hours, so please let us know if you can also help us some evenings.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have barista experience and be confident using a coffee machine and producing high-quality drinks consistently.
  • Candidates should possess strong Customer Service and Interpersonal Skills to engage guests in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Candidates should demonstrate clear Communication skills for interacting with guests and coordinating with team members.
  • Candidates should ideally possess Food Preparation skills and an understanding of basic food safety and hygiene practices. This is not a must as we can train you up!
  • Additional beneficial skills include previous café or hospitality experience, reliability in attendance and punctuality, the ability to stand for extended periods, and basic math skills for handling transactions.
