About The Role

The Battery and Generator Maintenance Manager, based in Reading, is a full-time role with Pertemps Thames Water, offering a salary between £70,000 and £78,500 per annum depending on experience. This position leads the delivery and quality assurance of maintenance for auxiliary power supplies and associated assets. The post-holder ensures these systems, which support operational sites during outages or emergencies, remain ready to respond.

Responsibilities include managing maintenance schedules, overseeing contractor performance, and contributing to a coordinated, data-led approach to power resilience. The role requires proven leadership in engineering maintenance, strong knowledge of generators and battery systems, and a commitment to operational safety.

This is a permanent contract within a growing team focused on strengthening power planning and enhancement across Thames Water’s operations.

Power Resilience is critical to Thames Water's ability to provide safe, reliable services to millions of customers. We are expanding our Power Resilience capability to strengthen how power is planned, maintained, and enhanced across our operations. We are looking for talented individuals to join this growing team and help shape a coordinated, data-led approach to managing Power Resilience across Thames Water.

What you’ll be doing as a Battery and Generator Maintenance Manager

As Maintenance Manager, you will lead the delivery and quality assurance of maintenance for auxiliary power supplies and associated assets. You will be responsible for ensuring that the auxiliary power systems that support operational sites during outages or emergencies are ready to respond when needed. You will also play a key role in strengthening resilience today while supporting the development of internal capability for the future.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital area of UK infrastructure and make a meaningful difference to customer outcomes and environmental protection. As the team grows, members will play an important role in shaping future ways of working and bringing their expertise to create lasting positive impact across Thames Water.

  • Hampton Coal Wharf - TW12 2ES
  • Reading - Kemble Court - RG2 6AD

Working pattern or hours

  • Hybrid - 36 Hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Organisational Capability: You will lead, support, and develop a team of professionals, helping them achieve their potential, deliver excellent outcomes, and contribute to the growth of future internal capability.
  • Maintenance Performance and Asset Reliability: You will oversee maintenance and quality assurance for auxiliary power supplies and assets, ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements while promoting reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Maintenance Standards and Continuous Improvement: You will work closely with internal and external teams to standardise inspection practices and ensure auxiliary power asset testing and maintenance governance is effective, dependable, and compliant.
  • Planning, Budget Management and Assurance: You will manage planning and budgets, contributing to the development of policies and best practice within the maintenance function.

What you should bring to the role?

  • Proven experience leading operational/technical teams and delivering outputs to required time, quality, and compliance standards, with demonstrable experience developing people and providing supportive leadership.
  • Strong commercial judgement with contractor performance and resource planning experience.
  • Experience managing compliance, maintenance planning, and operational budgets.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external contractors to support continuous improvement.

The essential criteria to help you succeed in this role

  • Knowledge of maintenance, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • IT literacy, including maintenance management systems.
