Are you passionate about fighting climate change?

Are you passionate about fighting climate change? Do you want to work on creating a world where everyone can breathe clean air? Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your engineering skills to real-world challenges? Do you want to work on cutting-edge battery technology and learn from experienced engineers?

Who we are

At Breathe, we believe an electrified future is key to achieving this, which is why we are building battery technology to help brands do more with the power they have.

Our physics-based battery management software helps some of the world's largest and most iconic automotive and consumer electronics brands deliver products with faster charging, longer life and zero compromise on safety. Put simply, we make batteries better. And we want you to join us.

What we will give you

You will join a talented and cohesive team who everyday go to work to do more with the power we have. Why? Because we dream of a world where everyone can breathe clean air.

As our intern you will get a proper look at how battery models are built, parameterised and validated, working alongside experienced modelling engineers. You will help us push the industry forward by helping make the complex simple and in return you have an opportunity to gain real industry experience and learn from and with a room full of experts working at the cutting edge of the industry.

We’re genuine people who want to do good and are driven by passion, coffee and a mutual love of dogs – and yes, our office in London is dog friendly and we would love to add more dogs to our pack.

Sounding great right?

We know it isn't always 9-5, but we do know that family and a good work-life balance are key to innovation, so we offer flexible and hybrid working to try to accommodate your needs.

We believe in keeping energy levels high and we have a constant supply of office snacks to help you with that.

What you will be doing

This is an exciting time to join Breathe. Having proven the value of our products across a range of industries, we are looking for an intern to join our modelling team this year to help reshape how we get models out of the door.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Right now, that process takes our engineers through a series of manual steps, and the team has already started building automation to take some of that off their hands. Your job is to bring those two things together into one workflow, so that AI can run through the pipeline from start to finish and only pull a person in when there is a real decision to make or something has gone wrong. This is a live problem rather than a set exercise, and it is yours from the first map of the pipeline to the final write-up. Whatever you build here will shape how we approach modelling as a company.

You'll work closely with our modelling, embedded software, and battery teams, with Claude and Claude Code as your main tools. We will give you real experience and training in AI-assisted engineering, workflow automation, and the practical judgement of deciding where a human still belongs in the loop.

Your day to day

  • Develop a working knowledge of how our models are built, tested, and released
  • Learn to use Claude and Claude Code to do real engineering work, with guidance from the team
  • Map our current model pipeline and pinpoint the steps that are slow, repetitive, or error-prone
  • Extend the team's automation prototype so more of the pipeline runs without manual input
  • Build in checks that pause the process and alert the right person when approval is needed or a step fails, rather than letting it break quietly
  • Track the time saved against the current manual process and document what does and doesn't automate well
  • Assist the modelling, embedded software, and battery teams as you get to grips with how the pipeline fits together
  • Any additional work that may from time to time be deemed critical to product or company success.

Your background

  • Studying towards, or a recent graduate of, a strong undergraduate or master's degree in a relevant subject, for example electrical or mechanical engineering or computer science. PhD students will also be considered.
  • Strong software and scripting skills, with a genuine interest in automation and applying AI to practical workflows.
  • Experience with coding in Python, with good use of AI tools in your development work.
  • Have examples of projects where you have improved a process through AI automation, whether through university work or personal initiatives.
  • A basic understanding of battery models and how they are parameterised is preferred, but gaps here should not deter you from applying.
  • A practical, self-directed approach, and the confidence to ask questions when a problem is unclear.
  • A team player with a proactive attitude, good attention to detail, strong communications skills and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Right to work in the UK for the full internship. Students whose visa permits the work are welcome, though please note term-time hours may be capped, typically at 20 per week.
