Lead one of the UK's most significant renewable energy assets

At SSE Renewables, we're building a smarter, cleaner energy future. As Senior Operations Manager, you'll have the opportunity to lead the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a major offshore wind farm, helping deliver the renewable energy needed to support the UK's Net Zero ambitions.

This is a high-profile leadership role where you'll be accountable for operational performance, commercial delivery and stakeholder engagement across a strategically important asset. You'll lead large operational and contractor teams, delivering the Management Service Agreement scope to the Joint Venture working closely with the General Manager as their lead representative, and have a critical role in maximising asset value, availability and production.

As the most senior operational leader on site, you'll provide visible leadership, make business-critical decisions, and create an environment where safety, performance and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything we do.

The role

Reporting to the Head of Operations & Maintenance, you'll be responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of the offshore wind asset, ensuring delivery of operational, contractual and commercial commitments.

Leading through a combination of direct reports, matrix teams and contractor partners, you'll oversee a workforce of around 50 people and be accountable for delivering strong safety performance, operational excellence and financial outcomes.

Working closely with SSE Renewables leadership teams and Joint Venture partners, you'll ensure the asset continues to perform at its best while creating long-term value and supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.

You will

  • Lead the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a major offshore wind asset, delivering excellent safety, availability, production and service restoration performance.
  • Accountable for delivering operational, contractual and commercial commitments, ensuring the offshore wind asset performs safely, reliably and efficiently while meeting agreed performance and budget targets.
  • Provide visible leadership across site teams, contractors and matrix functions, creating a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Oversee maintenance, outages, asset integrity and compliance activities, ensuring regulatory obligations, operational standards and long-term asset performance are maintained.
  • Build strong relationships with Joint Venture partners and key stakeholders, driving operational performance, commercial outcomes and effective governance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You have

  • Significant leadership experience managing operations within offshore wind, utilities, power generation, marine operations or other highly regulated industrial environments.
  • A strong track record of delivering excellent safety performance while leading multidisciplinary teams, contractors and complex operational activities.
  • Commercial and financial management experience, including budget ownership, contract management and delivery of business cases performance targets.
  • The ability to make balanced, risk-based decisions across operational, technical, contractual and commercial priorities while influencing senior stakeholders.
  • A degree in Engineering, Energy, Marine Operations, Asset Management or a related discipline, or equivalent operational leadership experience, alongside knowledge of Safe Systems of Work and operational safety rules.

This is a site-critical leadership role with responsibility for supporting operational and emergency response activities. As a result, you'll be predominantly site based with infrequent business travel and able to attend the Operational Hub at short notice and therefore either must reside, or be willing to relocate, within a safe commuting distance of the site (indicatively within 1 hour).
