NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Registered Nurse to join the Bed Management Team as a Band 6 Bed Manager. Working closely with the Site Flow Manager and multidisciplinary teams, the post holder will play a key role in the real-time coordination of patient flow and bed capacity across the North Sector. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced nurse with an acute services background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to improving patient flow, patient experience, and operational performance.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

  • Fixed Term, Full-time (36 hours)
  • Shift Pattern - Rotational
  • Base location - Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient flow and bed capacity in real time across the North Sector.
  • Support safe and timely patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Work collaboratively with the Site Flow Manager and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Use sound clinical judgement and strong decision-making skills to balance competing service demands.
  • Optimise patient placement across services.
  • Contribute to the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care.
  • Support improvements in patient flow, patient experience, and operational performance.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job

  • Registered Nurse qualification.
  • Experience working within acute healthcare services.
  • Strong clinical judgement and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of patient flow, bed management, and capacity coordination.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care and improving service performance.
