What You'll Do
The Behavioral Health Medical Provider NP/PA - Telehealth position directs, coordinates, and provides medical/clinical services to specified consumers (both youth and adult) through telehealth and, when needed, in collaboration with local Connections centers. Services include, but are not limited to, intervention, psychiatric evaluation and assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, engagement, family meetings, supportive psychotherapy, individual education, risk assessment, consultation with on-site clinical teams, and discharge planning. The role requires effective delivery of care through secure telephone and video platforms while maintaining clinical quality, documentation standards, privacy, and compliance with applicable state licensure and regulatory requirements.
- Serves as the attending clinician to specified individuals. Completes initial psychiatric assessments, crisis interventions, family interventions, focused crisis diagnostic assessments, assessments of capacity for consent to treatment, risk assessments, individual education, progress towards treatment goals, and discharge planning including medical, psychological, social, behavioral and developmental aspects of the consumer’s care, treatment, and services.
- Documents individuals’ progress in the clinical record including admission order, progress notes, and discharge orders. Oversees delivery of medication education and consent, according to established policy.
- Write orders related to the individual treatment plan, including admission orders, discharge orders, and medication administration orders.

- Order laboratory tests according to standards of clinical practice.
- Review the health assessments completed by nursing staff.
- Obtain a past and current medical history, and conduct a focused physical examination as indicated, according to established guidelines.
- Initiate contact with Primary Care Physicians and Emergency Room clinicians according to professional standards and established guidelines.
- Provides necessary information to clinical team regarding inpatient utilization. Utilizes appropriate medication based on best practices.
- Assess individuals’ needs and guide the clinical team while managing treatment plan updates, in addition to initiating contact with Outpatient Behavioral Health Provider according to established guidelines.
- Review and utilize all available documents from the crisis clinical team.
- Collaborate with other personnel to ensure that each treatment modality is appropriate for the individual in addition to working with outside psychiatric providers in crisis and inpatient services. Works with the community to review involuntary petitions, assess involuntary individuals, and coordinate with the legal system to follow established guidelines for Involuntary Evaluation and Treatment.
- Work closely with local medical leaders to ensure involuntary and voluntary processes are operating optimally.
- Escalate complicated cases to the appropriate medical director as needed.
- Actively participates in activities intended to improve the quality of services within the organization in the form of providing or attending clinical didactics and providing direct supervision to advanced practitioners, students, residents, and other members of the clinical staff.
- Participates in medical staff meetings including regional and quarterly meetings; participates in all required meetings; and participates in any meeting as requested by Medical Leadership.
- Conduct emergency examinations within a timely manner.
- Be available for telephone/video consultation while on duty.
- Provide clinical services via secure telehealth platforms, including video and telephone encounters, in accordance with organizational policy, privacy standards, and applicable federal and state requirements.
- Collaborate with on-site clinical staff to ensure appropriate care for patients.
- Maintain reliable availability during assigned telehealth shifts, including timely response to clinical staff, participation in virtual handoffs or consultations, and completion of documentation within required timeframes.
- Be available at all scheduled times to evaluate patient conditions, prescribe treatments.
- Use telehealth technology, electronic health records, and secure communication tools effectively to assess patient needs, prescribe treatments when clinically appropriate, and coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring
- Unrestricted Registered Nursing license in all Connections states of operation if applying for an NP position. This requirement is excluded for qualified physician assistants.
- Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a master’s level certification in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP) or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a master’s level certification.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or an active Physician Assistant) by each state of operation for Connections facilities Joint Boards of Nursing and/or Medicine as appropriate.
- Unrestricted DEA license and registered with each state of operation for Connections facilities, and an active registration with each state’s Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).
- Ability to provide telehealth services from a private, professional, and secure work environment with reliable internet connectivity and appropriate technology to support video, telephone, electronic health record, and secure communication requirements.
- The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
- Complete all credentialing requirements within the required time period, including but not limited to obtaining a National Provider Identifier (NPI), Medallion enrollment, Medicare enrollment, and any other necessary credentials as required for the role
- State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance
- Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (VA DBHDS) background check
- Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) Office of Background Investigations - Central Registry Search

It would be great if you had:
- Dual certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) if licensed as a PMHNP
- Experience working in addiction treatment and recovery
- Experience in the delivery of crisis mental health and/or delivery of family health treatment to children, adolescents, and/or adults
- Doctor of Nursing Practice or Doctor of Physician Assistant studies or Doctor of Medical Sciences
- Must have current DEA registration that includes Schedule III authority
- Prior experience delivering psychiatric, behavioral health, crisis, or urgent care services through telehealth or hybrid care models
