Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join Harrow Council’s Public Health team in a newly created role that will have a significant impact on improving health and wellbeing across the borough. As the Behaviour Change and Healthy Weight Lead, you will play a central role in delivering Harrow’s MECC Strategy, helping to embed health improvement conversations across council services, health organisations and the voluntary sector. By empowering staff and partners with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support healthier lifestyles, you will contribute to long-term improvements in population health and the reduction of health inequalities.
Working collaboratively with public health colleagues, clinicians, community partners and key stakeholders, you will lead the design, development and delivery of a high-quality MECC training programme for the borough. You will create engaging training resources, deliver impactful training sessions and establish a sustainable train-the-trainer model to build capability across organisations. Alongside this, you will provide professional leadership and oversight for the Child Healthy Weight Programme, supporting quality assurance, programme development and continuous improvement across a diverse network of providers and partners.

2 Year fixed-term contract.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience of leading complex public health behaviour change programmes and initiatives with minimal supervision.
- Excellent knowledge of culturally sensitive, evidence-based and compassionate behaviour change approaches.
- Ability to design and deliver effective interventions for diverse communities using behaviour change theory and professional judgement.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage and work effectively with groups from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Experience of coaching, mentoring and developing others, helping colleagues and partners build skills, knowledge and confidence.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex health information into clear, accessible and trauma-informed messages.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with experience of building effective partnerships and managing sensitive or challenging conversations without formal authority.
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, solve problems proactively and use initiative to drive positive change.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timescales.
- Good understanding of key public health priorities, including infection prevention and control, vaccination programmes, common communicable diseases and health improvement approaches.
