Job Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as a Behaviour Support Practitioner. You will be committed to delivering patient-focused care and treatment as a part of the Brent Community Learning Disability Team. The post-holder will work as a valued member of the therapies team, with support from the Lead Behaviour Analyst. They will work with individuals, the multi-disciplinary team around them, and other important people in the service users' lives to understand the person’s needs, difficulties, and establish support plans that improve quality of life and enable them to thrive in the community.
We are keen to invest in the development of new practitioners joining our service to enhance their knowledge, skills, clinical practice, and confidence working in this area. We are therefore looking for applicants who either have experience of working in community or inpatient setting with people with Learning Disability or have a good foundation of transferable skills and an interest to develop in this area.

Main duties of the job
The Behaviour Support Practitioner will work as part of a multidisciplinary Learning Disability Service, delivering person-centred, evidence-based behavioural support to people with learning disabilities, behaviours that challenge, and complex needs. Working under the supervision of the Lead Behavioural Analyst, the post holder will undertake behavioural assessments, implement positive behaviour support interventions, and contribute to the development of care plans that promote independence, choice, inclusion, and the least restrictive approach. The role involves working across a range of community settings, building effective partnerships with individuals, families, carers, and professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
The post holder will monitor progress, maintain accurate clinical records, contribute to risk assessments and written reports, and escalate significant changes in an individual's physical or mental health. They will also support the delivery of training and advice to carers, support staff, and partner organisations, promoting non-aversive, therapeutic approaches to behaviour support. The role requires effective workload management, strong communication and collaboration skills, a commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development, and adherence to professional standards, Trust policies, and evidence-based practice.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Main duties of the job
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred behavioural support to people with a learning disability, behaviours that challenge, and complex needs within community settings.
- Undertake behavioural assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions under the supervision of the Lead Behavioural Analyst, in line with individual care plans.
- Work collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, support providers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement positive behaviour support strategies.
- Promote independence, choice, inclusion, and positive outcomes by supporting people to access community opportunities and live in the least restrictive environment possible.
- Monitor, evaluate, and accurately record interventions, behavioural data, and progress, escalating any significant changes in an individual's physical or mental health.
- Contribute to risk assessments, behavioural support plans, clinical reports, and multidisciplinary reviews to ensure safe and effective care.
- Provide practical guidance, coaching, and training to carers, support staff, and partner organisations on non-aversive, therapeutic, and person-centred approaches.
- Manage a varied workload, prioritising tasks effectively while maintaining high standards of clinical documentation and communication.
- Maintain professional standards through reflective practice, ongoing professional development, and adherence to relevant professional codes of conduct and Trust policies.
- Contribute to the continuous development of the Learning Disability Service by working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver innovative, evidence-based behavioural support.

Person specification
Education
Essential criteria
- A good basic education with GCSE or equivalent in English NVQ 3
- Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis, Positive Behaviour Support model, and its application in practice
Desirable criteria
- PBS or ABA course work
- Practicing Registrant UKSBA
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people with a learning disability and/or autism who present behaviours that challenge in a direct hands-on role
- Experience of supporting people who display extreme anxiety, violence, and aggression
- An understanding of the application of behavioural approaches.
- Experience of engaging with people with learning disabilities to assess their needs, design and deliver appropriate behavioural interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the process.
- Ability to express themselves clearly in writing

Knowledge and Skills
