Long Term Futures are seeking a dedicated Behavioural Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) all-through provision, supporting pupils aged 4-16. The school supports learners with a range of special educational needs, SEMH and behavioural needs, providing a structured, nurturing and personalised approach to education. We are looking for candidates interested in both long-term opportunities and day-to-day cover, making this a great option for those seeking full-time work or flexible, part-time days.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils aged 4-16 with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs, adapting your approach to suit individual pupils.
- Build consistent, trusting relationships with children and young people who may have experienced barriers to education.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour using appropriate de-escalation and behaviour-management strategies.
- Create a calm, structured and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
- Adapt your communication and support depending on pupils' age, individual needs and stage of development.
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff and external professionals to provide consistent support.
- Encourage pupils to develop resilience, confidence, independence and positive social and emotional skills.

Person Specification
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural needs or other additional needs.
- Comfortable supporting pupils across a range of ages and abilities, from primary through to secondary.
- Calm, patient and resilient, with the ability to respond positively and consistently to challenging situations.
- Energetic and able to support active pupils throughout the school day.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish trust and clear boundaries.
- Confident working as part of a wider team to support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
- A genuine commitment to helping children and young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.
