Description
SolidCor is on a mission to make volume fire door replacement possible within days — enabling the industry to rapidly achieve compliance and community safety in every building. Born out of the urgent need for change following the Grenfell disaster, we have built the fastest production times in the industry and the widest range of primary-tested fire door configurations. We are growing fast and we are looking for A-players to help us get there.
We are passionate about getting things right and obsessed with quality. Our products are safety-critical — when a fire door fails, the consequences are real. Every doorset that leaves our Chesterfield factory has to be right, and the people who make them are at the heart of that.
We are looking for a skilled Bench Joiner to join our production team in Chesterfield, manufacturing high-quality fire doorsets to specification. You will work as part of a close-knit factory team, taking pride in the accuracy and quality of everything you make — knowing that what you build directly contributes to the safety of residents across the country.
If you are a skilled, reliable joiner who takes pride in your craft and wants to be part of a business genuinely committed to making buildings safer — read on.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture fire doorsets and door components to specification, working from drawings, cut lists, and production instructions.
- Operate bench and workshop machinery accurately and safely, including saws, routers, planers, and associated tooling.
- Carry out fitting, assembly, and finishing of door components to the required quality standard.
- Work to production targets and daily schedules, maintaining pace and accuracy throughout your shift.
- Carry out quality checks on your own work at each stage of production, identifying and reporting defects or non-conformances immediately.
- Maintain your workstation, tooling, and machinery in a clean, safe, and organised condition at all times.
- Follow all H&S procedures, COSHH requirements, and safe working practices on the factory floor.
- Work collaboratively with the wider production team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive, high-performance factory culture.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
