The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.

Job Description
Are you a compassionate, organised and experienced counsellor or bereavement support professional looking to make a meaningful difference to patients, families and carers at one of life’s most difficult times?
We are looking for a Bereavement Coordinator to join our Patient and Family Support Team at Marie Curie Bradford Hospice on a 9-month fixed term maternity cover contract.
In this rewarding role, you will coordinate and deliver bereavement support for people connected to the hospice, helping to ensure that patients, families and those important to them receive timely, compassionate and appropriate support before and after bereavement. You will be a key point of contact for people accessing bereavement counselling and support, working closely with colleagues, volunteers, students and external partners to provide a responsive, high-quality service.
What you will be doing:
- Coordinating referrals into the bereavement service, including initial assessment, triage, waiting list management and allocation of clients to the most appropriate support.
- Holding and managing your own caseload, providing compassionate bereavement support to individuals and families.
- Supporting bereavement groups and activities, including outpatient support and walking groups where appropriate.
- Recruiting, supervising and supporting bereavement volunteers and students, helping them to feel confident, safe and valued in their roles.
- Working closely with counsellors, the wider Patient and Family Support Team and the multidisciplinary hospice team to ensure people receive joined-up support.
- Maintaining accurate records, monitoring service quality, managing incidents appropriately and supporting continuous improvement across the bereavement service.

Qualifications
You would be an ideal candidate for this role if you have:
- A counselling qualification and relevant experience of providing emotional, psychological or bereavement support.
- Professional registration, ideally with BACP or an equivalent recognised professional body.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail.
- An understanding of bereavement care, support service standards and the importance of safe, person-centred practice.
- Experience of working with people affected by end of life, grief, loss or significant emotional distress would be highly desirable.
- The ability to manage a varied workload, keep accurate records and work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, students and external partners.

Additional Information
- Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale Band 6 (Aligned with AFC) £39,959 - £48,117 pro rata per annum
- Contract: 9-month fixed term maternity cover (possibility to extend) 21.25 hours per week
- Based: Marie Curie Bradford Hospice
- Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with typical working hours around 9:30am to 5:15pm / 9:30am to 5:00pm. Some flexibility may be considered.
