Role Overview:
The Bereavement Team is a small team of professionals based at Putney Vale or North East Surrey. The team manages two crematoria, three busy cemeteries, and two closed cemeteries. The team prides themselves on their work showing professionalism, empathy, and compassion through everything they do, positively supporting the community in times of need.
This pivotal role supports the daily operations of bereavement services, ensuring the highest standards of care, compliance, and operational efficiency. Reporting to Barbara Ward (Bereavement Services Manager), this role is part-time, 20 hours per week. You will play a key part in enhancing client engagement and fostering a compassionate, professional environment across crematorium, chapel, and cemetery services.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between bereavement services and the central finance team
- Ensure team-wide understanding of financial procedures
- Produce and check funeral director invoices
- Ensure accurate receipt recording and banking records to support NESCB Treasurer
- Handle procurement, raising of PO’s, and processing of supplier invoices
- Test fire alarms & maintain accurate records
- Assist manager in planning and delivering annual events (e.g., open days, memorial services)
- Support all administrative functions related to cemeteries and crematoria
- Act as Burial Attendance Officer, accompanying funeral corteges and overseeing interments
- Act as Chapel Attendant, overseeing services, ensuring cleanliness of venue, and checking audio visuals with celebrants and funeral directors
- Provide guidance to visitors on cemetery and crematorium matters
- Attend memorial services, open days, and company events/staff meetings
- Act as keyholder, responsible for locking/unlocking buildings as directed
- Be willing to work remotely if required
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks within the scope of the role and grade
- Offer administrative support at Putney Vale Crematorium under reciprocal arrangements

Skills and Experience:
- Strong emotional intelligence and ability to understand and respond to people’s reactions
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Compassionate, people-focused communicator, confident across all mediums
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines under pressure
- Professional, empathetic, and presentable at all times
- Calm and patient under stress, with a collaborative mindset
- Experience working with IT systems with Windows, web applications including Office 365, Teams, and Outlook, as well as other related software, including Sage Intacct
- Possess a high level of resilience, emotional stability, and maturity with a commitment to achieving and maintaining standards of excellence and experience of delivering administrative support in a busy, front-facing, and highly pressurized office environment
- Possess effective interactive communication skills with the ability to deal with potentially difficult and sensitive situations in a professional and calm manner without compromising the needs and quality of the service, with an excellent level of English language both written and oral and able to present information clearly and concisely
- Able to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and maintain confidentiality throughout that complies with GDPR requirements
- Attention to detail and methodical approach to work, ensuring completeness and accuracy
- Able to work as an effective team player, assisting and supporting other team members and help celebrate the success of the team and Enable as a whole
- Respects diversity and adopts a fair and inclusive approach with everyone
- Demonstrates the highest standards of personal conduct, honesty, integrity that inspires trust and confidence
- Able to prioritize tasks according to need and urgency
- Undertake fire marshall training if required and execute related duties if needed
- Undertake First Aid in the Workplace training and provide first aid in the workplace as and when needed post-training and qualification
- To always be of smart appearance and wear provided uniform when required to
- Full UK driving license
- Access to a vehicle suitable for use in connection with work duties
