Bereavement Services Operations Manager

Operations Manager (Bereavement Services – Contracts, Compliance, Administration and Service Delivery)

Middlesbrough Council is seeking an experienced and highly organised Manager to lead the bookings, administrative and service coordination functions of our Bereavement Services.

This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth, efficient and compliant management of service delivery processes, supporting teams who coordinate burial, cremation and memorial services. You will focus on systems, people and performance, ensuring high standards of customer service are delivered in a sensitive and professional environment.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage the administrative and coordination functions of the service
  • Oversee booking systems, scheduling and service allocation processes
  • Ensure all records, documentation and data are accurate and compliant
  • Manage and develop a team of administrative and customer service staff
  • Act as a key liaison for stakeholders, including partners and service users
  • Handle complex or sensitive enquiries and complaints professionally
  • Monitor and improve service performance, efficiency and customer experience
  • Review and enhance systems, processes and digital ways of working
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, policies and internal procedures
  • Support financial processes, including fees, invoicing and income monitoring

  • Has strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Can manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
