Electrical Engineer – BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)
Job Overview
Primoris Renewable Energy is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Successful candidates will develop advanced BESS designs, support project delivery, and lead technical documentation from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities

Design Development & Optimization
- Develop preliminary electrical design concepts for BESS based on engineering best practices.
- Contribute to detailed design development for awarded projects across the project lifecycle.
- Optimize costs and generate design matrices for future BESS projects.

Technical Documentation & Collaboration
- Provide technical documentation and support to Estimating, Business Development, and Proposal teams.
- Ensure alignment with utility interconnection documents: facility studies, agreements, and power purchase agreements.

Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Support
- Collaborate with Estimating, Procurement, Project Management, and Field Teams to refine designs.
- Lead AutoCAD designers in producing BESS site layouts, single-line diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Maintain and enhance internal BESS equipment databases for design use.

Construction & Material Forecasting
- Develop construction details and Bills of Materials for various project work packages.
- Analyze historical project data to support material forecasting for upcoming BESS projects.
- Provide engineering support to Procurements and Operations teams for awarded projects.

Process Improvement & Tool Optimization
- Enhance workflow processes across engineering, procurement, scheduling, and controls.
- Utilize and improve engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, PVsyst, ETAP, CYMCAP).
- Align with company-standard tools and communication methods.

Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, OR minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy.
- 2+ years in utility-scale BESS or Solar PV design (or renewable energy industry equivalent).
Technical Proficiencies
- Expertise with technical design tools:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- PVsyst, SAM, ETAP, CYMCAP (BESS focused tools)
- PVSOL (battery system design)
- Python (analysis scripts & automation where applicable)
Preferred Skills & Workplace Traits
- In-depth knowledge of BESS components: modules, inverters, DC/AC system drivers, and racking solutions.
- Ability to interpret manufacturer specs, design parameters, and installation guidelines.
- Experience with engineered BESS layouts and single-line diagram design (DC/AC).
- Strong multitasking, prioritization, and follow-through skills with minimal supervision.
- Thrives in fast-paced environments while maintaining clarity and professionalism.
- High-level organizational discipline and attention to detail.
