How You'll Make a Difference
As a Best Start Senior Family Hub Worker, you will help children and families access the right support at the right time through Family Hubs and Children’s Centres. Coordinating local service delivery, you will provide support to staff and work closely with partners to strengthen Early Help services for families.
Focusing on babies and children aged 0-5, while contributing to the wider 0-19 offer, or up to 25 for young people with SEND, you will combine operational leadership, quality assurance and direct family support to ensure services are welcoming, accessible and responsive to local needs.
What You Will Be Doing
With support from a Team Manager, you will provide local operational leadership, taking responsibility for effective day-to-day decisions with minimal direction. Rather than holding a caseload, you will focus on leading and developing a small team, coordinating local service delivery, overseeing the Family Hub environment and using performance data and family feedback to continuously improve the support available to children and families.
- Supervise and support Best Start Family Hub workers and administration staff, providing induction, coaching, mentoring and practice development.
- Coordinate and quality assure hub-based activities, including outreach, group programmes and one-to-one support, ensuring services are delivered safely, effectively and in line with evidence-based practice.
- Strengthen relationships and referral pathways across health, education, housing, welfare, food support and voluntary sector organisations to improve outcomes for families.
- Use family feedback, performance data and local insight to evaluate impact, monitor service reach and drive continuous improvement across the Best Start offer.
- Apply sound professional judgement to safeguarding, risk assessment, building management and health and safety responsibilities, ensuring concerns are identified, managed and escalated appropriately.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
