BI Analyst (Microsoft Fabric)

£55–60k basic salary + 5% quarterly bonus
Hybrid working (3 days in office, 2 from home)

We are supporting a well-established professional services organisation based in central Manchester in their search for a BI Analyst with strong Power BI and Microsoft Fabric capability. This is an integral hire within a growing analytics function, offering genuine ownership of data modelling, Fabric development, and the modernisation of a complex reporting estate.

The successful candidate will play a key role in consolidating disparate SQL scripts, datasets, and reporting logic into governed, reusable analytical assets. You will work closely with the Analytics Manager and wider technical teams to establish best practice, shape data standards, and support the organisation’s journey toward a more mature Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimise and rationalise the existing Power BI estate, improving governance, performance, and maintainability.
  • Design and build data solutions within Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouses, Warehouses, Pipelines and Dataflows.
  • Create shared semantic models and reusable datasets to support consistent reporting across the business.
  • Consolidate SQL scripts, business logic and reporting processes into governed analytical datasets.
  • Establish and promote data modelling standards, Power BI best practices and governance frameworks.
  • Improve report performance through optimisation of data models, DAX, refresh processes and source queries.
  • Support data quality initiatives and ensure consistency of business logic across reporting assets.
  • Collaborate with analysts and data engineers to implement reporting standards and governance processes.
  • Mentor junior team members and manage stakeholder communication with a high degree of independence.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the wider Data & Analytics Strategy.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong Power BI development, data modelling and DAX skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, or transferable experience from platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks or Synapse.
  • Understanding of Lakehouse and warehouse concepts, medallion architecture, pipelines, dataflows and dev/test/prod environments.
  • Strong SQL/T-SQL capability, including query optimisation.
  • Experience building shared semantic models and reusable datasets.
  • Solid grounding in dimensional modelling, relational databases and ETL/ELT principles.
  • Ability to gather requirements and translate them into scalable analytical solutions.

Desirable Experience

  • Microsoft Fabric or Power BI certifications.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Purview, REST APIs or CI/CD.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, Azure DevOps or Jira.
