Role Description

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail of data: writing efficient SQL, building well-structured Power BI models and dashboards, and using advanced data engineering techniques to automate and extend (where possible). You will be expected to interrogate data sources independently, spot gaps or inconsistencies before they become a problem, and proactively propose solutions rather than waiting to be asked.

You will work closely with the Business Systems team and internal operational stakeholders across the Group to understand reporting needs and deliver BI solutions that genuinely support decision making.

Power BI Development

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that are accurate, performant, and easy for end users to navigate.
  • Develop robust data models within Power BI, applying good practice around relationships, DAX measures, and data refresh schedules.
  • Apply strong visual design principles and consistent UI standards when building dashboards, thinking carefully about layout, hierarchy, colour, and flow so that users can find and understand insights quickly.
  • Design report navigation and user interface flows that guide users naturally from a high-level overview through to the detail they need, rather than presenting data for its own sake.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of BI reporting requests, from initial requirement through to a published, tested solution.
  • Continually review and refine existing reports and dashboards to improve performance, usability, and visual clarity.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

SQL & Data Interrogation

  • Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, join, and transform data from multiple source systems.
  • Interrogate operational and business systems directly to validate data quality, trace discrepancies, and understand how data is generated at source.
  • Build and maintain views, stored procedures, and staging queries that support reliable and repeatable reporting.
  • Document data lineage and logic clearly so that reports remain maintainable as systems and requirements change.

Automation & Python (or equivalent) Technologies

  • Use Python to automate repetitive data preparation, extraction, and quality checking tasks where this adds clear value.
  • Support the development of scripts and small tools that streamline data workflows ahead of, or alongside, Power BI.
  • Explore opportunities to apply Python for tasks such as data cleansing, scheduled reporting, or API-based data retrieval.

Essential

  • Strong, demonstrable experience building reports and dashboards in Power BI, including data modelling and DAX.
  • Strong Structured Query Language (SQL) skills, with the ability to write and optimize complex queries across multiple tables and sources.
  • Confidence interrogating unfamiliar data sources to understand structure, quality, and reliability.
  • A proactive approach to identifying data gaps and proposing solutions, rather than waiting for direction.
  • Good understanding of data modelling concepts, such as star schemas and relationships between fact and dimension tables.
  • A good eye for visual design and dashboard usability, with an understanding of how to structure reports and interface flows so that insights are easy to find and act on.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
