I'm working with a client going through a major digital transformation who needs an experienced BI Lead to take ownership of delivery across their reporting workstream.

And the word delivery is important here.

My client need someone who can coordinate the workstream, manage the backlog and priorities, work with stakeholders...but still get their hands dirty building dashboards, reports and data models when needed.

You'll effectively sit between the Head of Data, the wider transformation programme and the BI development team, making sure reporting is genuinely ready when the new systems go live.

What you'll be doing:

  • Turning programme milestones into a structured BI delivery plan
  • Managing and prioritising the BI development backlog
  • Getting hands-on with Power BI dashboards, reports and data models
  • Working with technical and business teams to turn requirements into something developers can actually build
  • Managing dependencies between reporting, data migration and the wider data platform
  • Supporting UAT, reconciliation and reporting readiness for go-live
  • Helping establish consistent reporting governance, definitions and standards

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

More than anything, they need someone who can bring pace and structure to delivery without disappearing so far into "leadership" that they've forgotten how to actually build anything.

This is an initial 5-month contract (outside IR35) starting ASAP and paying £600–650 per day. There’s also plenty of flexibility to work remotely.
