Bid Manager
We are looking for a Bid Manager who is keen to expand their experience in a company that values bid management as a profession that contributes to the success of our business. We are keen to hear from experienced Bid Managers who are looking to make the next step up in their career.
You will be responsible for managing the end-to-end bid process, using best practice techniques to ensure proposals are both compliant and compelling, and therefore maximising our chances of success. You should be able to work to high quality standards and clearly articulate Farrans’ value proposition.
This role sits within our dedicated Civil Engineering Pre-Contract team which includes professional bid managers, estimators and writers. You will work with your colleagues to prepare submissions for projects across a variety of civil engineering sectors, that typically range from £10m to in excess of £50m.
Our Pre-Contract department is key to the ongoing success of the company. Therefore, we will actively support your personal development, including to achieve certification with the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP).
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Effectively lead the bid team to achieve a compliant and compelling bid submission
- Formulate a winning bid strategy with the senior management team, based on an assessment of client drivers and priorities
- Implement bid kick-off meetings to communicate the winning bid strategy and inform all parties of the individual responsibilities for the bid, including scope of response, timing and review process.
- Regularly review bid progress, taking action to ensure compliance with the winning bid strategy. Escalate issues within the chain of command where conflicting pressures apply.
- Interrogate the commercial, technical and bid submission responses to drive a best value offering to the Client.
- Encourage an integrated team approach, bringing enthusiasm and energy to the bid process.
- Write or contribute to sections of the quality response.
- Lead the Farrans team in preparation of presentations for tender interviews.
- Manage the tender clarification process, during and post bid stages.
- Strive for continuous improvement within the pre-construction process, including the application of best practices in bid management.
- Seek client feedback in respect of all submissions to drive improvements.
- Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
