Job Title: Bid Manager
Reports To: Senior Proposals Manager
Location: Stockton-on-Tees
Department: Business Development — pxEngineering

The Role
The Bid Manager is responsible for receiving, logging and actioning all proposals approved to bid, managing the bid process to ensure every opportunity moves through the relevant process gates, with all forms, documentation and approvals completed and reviewed before submission to the customer. The role is accountable for the technical submission of bids, ensuring costs align with technical requirements and are competitive, schedules are achieved, and scope is accurate against customer deadlines.
The role works closely with Bids Engineers, Sales and Projects teams, presenting submissions internally to secure approvals and convert opportunities into wins. The role is full time, days based, with frequent travel and no direct line management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Bid Process Ownership & Delivery
- Accountable for the technical response to all opportunities entering the Stockton PXE facility, reviewing, prioritising and actioning with the correct level of effort to meet both customer requirements and company strategy
- Manage the bids pipeline to ensure accurate, up-to-date information is collated and ready for reporting metrics and KPIs to the wider management team
- Take ownership of all bid submissions, ensuring process is followed, accuracy is maintained and diligent review is delivered across all opportunities
- Accountable for folder and structure management of all opportunities, ensuring information is stored in the correct locations
- Responsible for completing all audits of the bid process

- Review and present all opportunities to the management team in the form of a Technical Bid review, ensuring the correct approvals are gained before submittal
- Responsible for analysis of bid costs to ensure diligence and identify the correct actions required
- Ensure all bids are fully compliant with client requirements and instructions, and meet internal rules and regulations
- Liaise with purchasing teams monthly to log changes and ensure competitive pricing is used in every opportunity
- Ensure PX regulations and rules are adhered to, and comply with all regional requirements
Stakeholder & Sales Collaboration
- Work closely with the Sales team to ensure each opportunity is reviewed and understood, so sales can manage the customer accordingly
- Work closely with different internal departments to ensure each opportunity is understood, the level of effort is agreed, and the correct information is collated to complete award-winning proposals
- Liaise with the wider team to verify scope, time, costs and resource for each opportunity, and understand the customer's budget and price/sales expectations
- Liaise with sales to ensure alignment for each opportunity and that other teams support proposals and sales to increase win likelihood
- Client face for all significant opportunities, assisting with technical presentations prior to award
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Accountable, along with the Sales Team, for bid and tender tracking, logging and updating centrally
- Track and log targets weekly and monthly to highlight opportunities, conversion chance and win rates
- Manage continuous improvement, including the introduction of processes to increase bid velocity and accuracy
- Ensure industry or scheme-specific standards are known and adhered to, and that proposal H&S requirements are met

The Person
- Degree or HNC qualified in a technical or engineering discipline
- An understanding of heavy engineering or related costing
- Proven track record in delivering an outstanding bids and tender experience within a similar industry, including submissions through tender portals
- Significant experience in technical tender creation and bid writing
- Knowledge of engineering drawings and bills of materials to validate costing
- Able to deliver bids and critical client requirements on time and on spec, consistently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
- Highly organised and able to prioritise workloads, manage multiple opportunities and negotiate deadlines, collaborating with cross-site teams
- Ability to work directly and closely with bids, sales and projects personnel to ensure proposal content matches client expectation
- Able to present bespoke technical solutions to key internal and external stakeholders
- Commitment to profitable growth by finding more efficient ways of working
- Ability to travel for client meetings
