JOB DESCRIPTION – Bid Manager

DEPARTMENT: Sales

Angloco is looking for an ambitious, highly organised and commercially aware Bid Manager to lead the development of compelling, compliant tender submissions for our industry-leading firefighting vehicles and equipment.

Based in Batley, West Yorkshire, this role offers autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to coordinate bids across Sales, Finance, Directors, and other internal stakeholders. The position is central to identifying suitable opportunities, managing submissions from initial qualification through to outcome review, and continuously improving Angloco’s bid processes and win rates.

Role Overview

Angloco is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Bid Manager to lead the identification, planning, preparation, and submission of high-quality tender responses for firefighting vehicles and associated equipment.

This role is critical in securing new business through public and private sector tenders globally. The successful candidate will translate complex technical specifications into compelling, compliant, and commercially attractive proposals, ensuring Angloco remains competitive in a highly specialised market.

Key Responsibilities

Tender & Proposal Development

  • Lead the end-to-end preparation of tender submissions (ITT, RFP, RFQ, etc.)
  • Analyse tender documentation to fully understand technical, commercial, and compliance requirements
  • Coordinate and compile responses across engineering, sales, operations, and supply chain teams
  • Write clear, persuasive, and technically accurate responses tailored to each client requirement
  • Ensure submissions are completed within deadlines and adhere to strict compliance criteria

Technical Content Creation

  • Develop detailed technical descriptions of firefighting vehicles, systems, and equipment
  • Translate engineering and technical specifications into clear customer-focused narratives
  • Maintain and improve a library of standard responses, case studies, and technical content
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams to validate technical accuracy

Commercial & Bid Strategy Support

  • Support the development of bid strategies, win themes, and value propositions
  • Highlight Angloco’s differentiators, innovation, and operational strengths
  • Assist in pricing narratives and commercial justifications where required

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a central point of coordination for bid inputs across departments
  • Liaise with:
    • Engineering & Design
    • Sales Teams (UK & International)
    • Procurement & Operations
    • External partners (when necessary)
  • Facilitate bid review meetings and ensure alignment across stakeholders

  • Ensure all proposals meet:
    • Client specifications
    • Regulatory and industry standards
    • Internal quality benchmarks
  • Implement continuous improvements to proposal processes and documentation standards

Opportunity Identification & Qualification

  • Monitor relevant public sector notification websites to identify suitable contract opportunities for evaluation.
  • Maintain and update CPV codes and keywords to support effective searches across online tender alert tools, including Tracker.
  • Prepare expressions of interest, as required, to obtain tender and bid documentation.

Tender & PQQ Project Management

  • Project manage tenders and pre-qualification questionnaires in liaison with the Sales team.
    • Contribute to decisions on which tenders and bids should be progressed, considering strategic importance, resource requirements, and likelihood of success.
    • Coordinate and organise bid planning meetings, ensuring all necessary specification information is gathered in advance. Review tender specifications with the Sales team and prepare a clear outline structure for the final submission.
    • Plan and communicate the schedule for developing all required content, clearly assign responsibilities to contributors, and follow up on agreed actions from bid planning meetings.
    • Source appropriate generic content from across the business and from suppliers, where relevant, and develop additional non-technical content in response to specific tender questions.
    • Review, edit, and write content to ensure each bid positions Angloco and its products effectively against the specification and maintains a consistent, professional style throughout.
    • Work with the Sales team and Directors, as required, to agree the final pricing structure, ensuring it is compliant with the tender specification, realistic, robust, and competitive. Pricing must accurately reflect internal cost estimates, supplier and subcontractor pricing, margins, and business targets.
    • Work with the Finance Director to accurately model cash flow and other financial implications of each contract and propose appropriate payment terms.
    • Ensure project and contractual risks are fully evaluated and appropriately mitigated within tender proposals.
    • Proofread and produce finalised documents and submissions to a high standard, ensuring they are issued to customers on time, whether electronically or in hard copy.
    • Track and record tender activity accurately within the company CRM system.
    • Work with the Sales team to follow up on tender outcomes, identify reasons for wins and losses, and ensure these insights are recorded accurately to support future management information.

Process Improvement, Information Management & Stakeholder Liaison

  • Communicate proactively with the Head of Sales to ensure tender production processes, protocols, and management information meet the needs of the business. Support the continuous improvement of these protocols to increase the efficiency, quality, and volume of bid outputs.
  • Provide regular feedback and updates to the Head of Sales on tender performance, including recommendations for improving future outputs and processes.
  • Create, manage, and develop a company tender information library, including evaluating completed tenders and extracting, indexing, and maintaining relevant content. Ensure all documents are stored, managed, and protected effectively, with strict version control and appropriate protection of intellectual property. This may include sourcing and implementing suitable software tools to support information management.
  • Manage and control tender templates, ensuring they conform to Angloco brand guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the end-to-end bid process, from opportunity identification through to winning submission, and implement changes where necessary to improve win/loss ratios, resource allocation, management, and overall business development effectiveness.
  • Manage senior-level meetings effectively and professionally.
  • Liaise professionally with senior Angloco personnel and other internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain and manage the Angloco Sales inboxes in conjunction with the Sales Support Manager.

  • Proven experience in technical proposal writing, bid management, or tender submissions
  • Experience working within the public sector for tendering opportunities
  • Exceptional written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Experience managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
