Bid Manager – Civil Engineering / Construction

Location: Avonmouth, Bristol / South West England
Salary: Competitive + Car Allowance
Job Type: Permanent

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Bid Manager to join an established and growing civil engineering and infrastructure business based in the South West.

This is a key work-winning position, where you will take ownership of bids from initial opportunity through to final submission. You will work closely with technical, commercial and operational teams to develop compelling, commercially strong and fully compliant tender submissions.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Bid Manager who enjoys taking ownership, influencing stakeholders and turning complex technical information into clear, persuasive proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end bid process from early opportunity/positioning through to final submission.
  • Develop clear bid strategies, win themes, key messages and submission programmes.
  • Review and analyse tender documentation, ensuring all client requirements and evaluation criteria are fully understood and addressed.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary bid teams across operational, technical, commercial and external stakeholders.
  • Challenge and influence contributors to ensure submissions are competitive, compelling and delivered to a high standard.
  • Produce and coordinate high-quality written tender responses, ensuring content is clear, concise and client-focused.
  • Manage bid programmes, reviews, approvals and submission deadlines.
  • Identify gaps, risks and opportunities throughout the tender process and ensure these are addressed effectively.
  • Present company experience, capabilities, people and technical solutions in a compelling and visually engaging way.
  • Develop an understanding of clients, markets, competitors and upcoming opportunities to support future work-winning activity.
  • Lead post-bid reviews, capturing feedback, lessons learned and reusable content to continually improve the bid function.
  • Maintain a high level of compliance, quality and attention to detail across all submissions.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Bid Manager / Work Winning professional with a strong background in civil engineering, construction, infrastructure or a closely related sector.

You will ideally have:

  • 5+ years' experience in bid management, work winning or a related role.
  • Proven experience managing complex tender submissions from start to finish.
  • Strong understanding of the construction, civil engineering or infrastructure environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to take complex technical and commercial information and turn it into clear, persuasive content.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and challenge senior colleagues and technical specialists.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of what makes a successful bid.
  • A creative approach to developing compelling bid strategies and submissions.
  • High attention to detail and a strong understanding of compliance.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office / Office 365 and bid management tools.
  • A relevant construction, technical or commercial qualification would be advantageous, but practical experience and proven bid management capability are equally valued.
