Billing Coordinator (Maternity Cover)
London | Full-Time | 15-Month Fixed Term Contract | Start: December 2026
Most billing roles ask you to keep the machine running. This one asks you to help rebuild it.
We're looking for an Billing Coordinator to join our London billing team on a 15-month contract, covering maternity leave. You'll own e-billing for an award-winning international patent firm — and you'll do it as part of a team actively using AI to redesign how billing works.
Two reasons this isn't a standard maternity cover
- You get a real handover. You'll start in early January and work alongside the colleague you're covering until she goes on leave in March. That's around two months, side by side — a full billing cycle together, introductions to the fee earners and clients you'll be looking after, and our systems learned from the person who runs them today. No being thrown in at the deep end, no piecing it together from a handover document.
- You get to build with AI. EIP is investing seriously in AI, and billing is one of the places it's happening for real — testing tools and building agents that take the manual, repetitive work out of the process. You'll be part of that: spotting the friction in your own workflow, helping design and test the fixes, and shaping what a billing function looks like when agents handle the grind. Very few billing roles anywhere are offering that right now, and it stays on your CV long after this contract ends.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'll do
- Own e-billing. Set up new e-billing clients end to end, upload LEDES files and invoices, manage rates, rejections and queries, and work hand in glove with Credit Control
- Bill across the firm. Monthly billing for both our patent prosecution and Litigation clients — WIP reports, amendments, drafting and finalising bills
- Be the go-to. First point of contact for billing queries from our attorneys and lawyers across the UK, Europe and the US
- Work in Business Central. Processing sales invoices and handling inter-company posting from our US office
- Make it better. Find the repetitive tasks worth automating, and help build and test the agents that do it
What you'll bring
- Around 2 years' legal billing experience — patent or litigation billing especially welcome
- Hands-on e-billing: LEDES files, client portals, and the confidence to navigate one you've never seen before
- Genuine interest in the patent world and curiosity about the technology our clients are creating
- AI-curious at minimum. Used AI tools before? Great. Haven't, but want to? Also great — the mindset matters more than the tool list
- Strong numbers, sharp eye for detail, and excellent Excel
- The ability to juggle priorities and communicate clearly with people at every level
- Business Central or Inprotech experience is a bonus, not a must.
