BIM Coordinator for Building Services Engineering

About the Business Unit

The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation, and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

Overview of the Role

We are seeking a BIM Coordinator for Building Services Engineering to lead BIM on projects as part of our multidisciplinary Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health (MEP) team. This role is ideally based in one of our core Buildings offices in London, Croydon, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, or Belfast, but other locations will be considered. The role will require collaboration across our UK regional teams to contribute to national and international projects.

You will play a key role in delivering major projects across diverse sectors, including:

  • Healthcare
  • Defence and civic infrastructure
  • Airports
  • Railway stations
  • Residential developments
  • Data centres

Mott MacDonald has a strong track record in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, and you will contribute to this legacy by leading high-profile, complex schemes and driving technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate BIM models across architecture, structural, MEP, and other disciplines
  • Setup, review, and maintain BIM models, including clash detection and facilitating issue resolution
  • Facilitate coordination meetings; ensure teams follow BIM workflows and standards (e.g., BIM toolkit and ISO 19650)
  • Facilitate development and implementation of BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and the projects’ associated information management resources
  • Liaise with engineers, architects, and consultants for seamless model integration and coordination
  • Manage model assurance checks for geometric and alphanumeric compliance and contribute to Common Data Environment (CDE) setup and use
  • Support training on BIM processes and tools; troubleshoot software and coordination issues
  • Prepare and oversee digital deliverables (models, drawings, COBie, IFC files, asset data)
  • Present coordination outcomes and reports to clients and project teams
  • Support the Design Team Lead, discipline team leads, and discipline-specific BIM practitioners in the technical services workstream

Candidate Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years relevant BIM experience
  • Experience in delivery of multi-disciplinary building projects
  • Proficient in Revit, Navisworks, BIM360/ACC/Forma, and other common BIM tools
  • Understand MEP modelling constraints, Coordination Strategies, MEP specific deliverables aligned to Design Stages, MEP data delivery requirements
  • Strong understanding of BIM standards and workflows (e.g., BIM toolkit and ISO 19650)
  • Experience in managing CDE, clash detection, model federation, and team coordination
  • Understanding of systems thinking and understanding interdependencies
  • Organisational and time management to deliver multiple activities to deadline

Desirable

  • UK Passport willing to work on projects with UK Government security vetting
  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Communication and organization skills; able to lead meetings and training sessions
  • Membership of CIBSE, IET, or IMechE
  • Experience of working in a corporate organisation
  • Ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Experience in sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, aviation, rail, residential, or data centres
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools and emerging technologies

  • Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally as required
  • Commitment to high standards of corporate governance and project delivery
