Role Overview
SVI is looking to recruit a BIM & Digital Estimating Engineer to support the continued development of our BIM, digital engineering, and estimating capability.
This is a hybrid role working across BIM, design, estimating, and fabrication. A key focus will be developing how SVI uses BIM models and structured project data to generate quantities, support cost estimates, and improve the efficiency and consistency of our estimating processes.
The longer-term objective is to help SVI move towards a more model-led estimating approach, where information within BIM models can be effectively translated into quantities, assemblies, labor requirements, material costs, and ultimately project estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interrogate Revit and BIM models provided at tender and preconstruction stages.
- Extract quantities, schedules, and other structured information from BIM models.
- Work alongside the estimating team to convert model information into detailed cost estimates.
- Develop efficient model-based quantity take-off processes for ductwork, steelwork, supports, and associated fabricated systems.
- Help develop standard BIM parameters, classifications, schedules, and data structures suitable for estimating purposes.
- Review the quality and completeness of tender models and identify missing information, assumptions, and commercial risks.
- Support the estimating team with measurement and interpretation of technical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Develop standard components, assemblies, and estimating rules for repeatable fabricated items.
- Assist with improving links between BIM information, estimating software, rate libraries, and other business systems.
- Support SVI’s wider development of BIM, DfMA, modularization, and digital engineering processes.
- Work collaboratively with estimating, design, procurement, production, and project teams to improve the flow of information from tender through to manufacture.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive BIM, quantity take-off, and estimating activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Direct experience of both BIM and detailed ductwork or steelwork estimating would be advantageous, but is not essential. We are equally interested in candidates with a strong BIM/Revit background, good construction knowledge, and the aptitude to develop the estimating side of the role.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is technically capable but also interested in how BIM information can be used commercially.
The right candidate will:
- Be confident working with BIM models rather than simply producing drawings.
- Have an interest in estimating, fabrication, and how construction components are actually manufactured.
- Be comfortable working with quantities, data, and structured information.
- Be naturally interested in improving and automating processes.
- Be able to challenge incomplete or inaccurate model information.
- Be comfortable working across different departments within the business.
- Have the ambition to help develop a capability rather than simply operate an existing process.
