Job Purpose

Drive the business forward. Support the BIM Management Team and the Design Technology group.

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated BIM Manager to join our Design Technology - BIM Management team, with a core focus on supporting the business in its active use of BIM processes (standards, methods & procedures) & methodologies, to an exceptional level, and in line with industry standards and business protocol. As processes and systems go hand in hand, strong knowledge and experience in developing a technology structure and software portfolio necessary for the business to excel in BIM-enabled project environments – with strong reference to the core principles of ISO 19650 – is required.

You will be primarily responsible for providing immediate and appropriate technical support and guidance to discipline-based (Architectural / Interiors) BIM Coordinators, Team BIM Studio responsible for specific projects, and as required, any further member of staff operating in a BIM-enabled environment. You will also be responsible for exploring, testing, and implementing new BIM-enabling products and processes, for preparing associated guidance notes and graphics to support their use, and for hosting educational workshops to guide staff.

Additional responsibilities will include active support to the Head of BIM in developing and delivering the business BIM education strategy, the maintenance and development of the business BIM system set-up structure, the exploration and implementation of additional BIM ‘enabling’ products, processes, and templates, and the support for project-based BIM Management deliverables, as required. You will be directly managing a team of BIM Coordinators to whom you will be offering support and guidance as part of their career development journey. You will be reporting to the Head of BIM and ultimately to the Director of Technology.

Key Responsibilities

Workshops

  • Maintain a close relationship with your direct BIM Coordinators team, by engaging in daily conversation meant to maintain workload awareness and address critical items whilst conducting team task planning.
  • Host catch-up meetings, weekly with the BIM Management team to maintain awareness of workload (supporting accordingly) and collective development progress.
  • Host monthly business-wide BIM Workshops to present system development progress to the business, prompt feedback on need, and tailor accordingly.
  • Participate in weekly catch-up meetings with Head of BIM to discuss team progress.
  • Participate in Design Technology catch-up meetings.

Support

  • Develop and maintain Revit methodology guidance note, with active contribution from all members of BIM Management team.
  • Provide dedicated support and guidance to Architectural / Interiors BIM Coordinators on processes detailed in the aforementioned document.
  • Provide technical support to members of staff in each respective department where BIM Leads are temporarily unavailable.

Technology

  • Maintain the current technology software tool set with the Computational team (templates, updates, etc.).
  • Explore, test, and implement new technologies meant to expand and develop the tp bennett BIM Services offering.
  • Conduct Research & Development and create tp bennett custom specific tools with the Computational team when and if needed. Contribution to the development of emerging digital processes and artificial intelligence technologies.
  • Make active use of artificial intelligence tools on a weekly basis, embedding them into daily workflows and automations. Identify and build automations that remove repetitive tasks. Share this learning with the wider Digital Design Team to support the ongoing development of tp bennett's digital and AI strategy.
  • Understanding of how design and data platforms connect through APIs, sufficient to scope automation opportunities and brief them clearly to the Computational team.
  • Experience testing and evaluating new software before wider business rollout.

Education

  • Co-host education sessions with Architectural / Interiors BIM Coordinators.
  • Maintain the development and delivery of the business BIM education strategy.
  • Collaborate with BIM Coordinators to record staff capability.
  • Participate in industry events symposiums – technology-oriented – to assess and identify potential useful technologies. Represent tp bennett at such events by hosting workshops or presenting classes.

Structure

  • Confidently produce clear technical documentation, workflow guides, and standard procedures for BIM teams.
  • Contribute BIM content to the BIM Intranet Page and monthly business-wide Newsletters.
  • Collaborate with the other BIM Managers to implement new BIM-enabling products and processes.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Digital Design and wider Design Technology Team to implement and sync strategies meant to ultimately achieve the wider Design Technology goals.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Proven experience working in an Architectural or Interior Design environment, preferably both.
  • Exceptional working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Forma.
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm for digital design and deliverable methodologies.
  • Good understanding of UK building construction fundamentals.
  • Organised, hard-working, and self-disciplined, with the ability to take initiative.
  • Exceptional working knowledge of BIM-enabled technologies.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Proven delivery of COBie information exchanges and leadership of clash detection and issue management (Navisworks, Revizto).
  • Building query dashboards from model/CDE data.
  • Early-stage analysis (Forma Site Design) and sustainability workflows (IES VE, One Click LCA) to collaborate with Sustainability teams.
  • Working knowledge of Revit automation tools such as Dynamo or pyRevit, enough to test ideas and identify where automation would add value.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Forma and how project data is managed and exchanged through Autodesk Platform Services (APS).
