Job Description: GLights Bio Commercial Advisor

About the Role

GLIGHTS is ST&S’s global Light ends products trading book. It's one of the most dynamic & fast-growing trading teams in ST&S, operating a global trading book model. GLIGHTS trades across multiple products such as gasoline, LPG, Naphtha, Petrochemicals which are structured under 4 main global pillars: Global Gasoline, Global Petrochemicals, Global Paper & Global GreenLights (Bio, low carbon, circular). We have teams based in London, Singapore, Chicago, Houston & Sao Paulo to drive our ambitious global growth agenda.

Bio is an exciting and highly dynamic part of the RPTE&A portfolio presenting significant opportunity for growing physical trading and optimisation in meeting low carbon obligations.

The role of the GLights Bio Commercial Advisor is to lead enhancement of the day-to-day commercial operations for the bio bench, ensure efficient set up new models as we integrate with other parts of bp and support strategic priorities to enable further PnL growth.

The role will work directly with the Bio Book lead and lead key initiatives to grow the business. This role will provide a growth platform for future CCM roles (as succession plan).

In this role You will

  • Will hold accountabilities ranging from tasks in support of the day to day trading platform, continuous improvement initiatives to make the commercial platform more sustainable and resilient, to enabling the commercial growth agenda, including shaping book strategy. These accountabilities include ownership of resource requirements, system and process oversight, people development needs, feeding into structured business planning processes, and identifying and removing constraints to grow the portfolio.
  • Will understand the inner details of how the Bio Trading book works, interacting directly with all key support functions for day-to-day support of the bench needs.
  • Will deliver continuous improvements to business process and be central in driving bench participation in strategic initiatives; in particular midstream integration and future bio systems design and governance.
  • Will manage the NAI process for new business (such as new low carbon instrument types GHGs, EUA2s and new bio fuels etc) and depending on the opportunity, support deal origination and marketing activity as required.
  • Will also play a key role managing Bio interfaces across the trading books, with supply and bio fuels growth and be the voice of Glights bio into these forums.

What You will need to be successful

  • Good understanding of commodity trading business, exposure, and key trading and P&L principles
  • Knowledge of bio products, European regulations, bp bio supply chains and markets is strongly desirable.
  • Knowledge of bp’s bio deal booking and operations systems and processes is desirable
  • Commercially minded
  • Self-starter and desire to take responsibility
  • Strong capability in navigating ambiguity, making recommendations and leading activities to conclusion
  • Experience in building relationships, balancing conflicting viewpoints and establishing and leading cross functional teams
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work in multicultural environment and adapt to different styles accordingly
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and demonstrate quick thinking in a fast-paced trading environment
  • Track record of improving processes and familiarity with driving change to bp systems is a strong plus
