Astute’s Power Team is partnering with a leading organisation in the renewable energy sector to recruit a Biogas Maintenance Engineer for one of its UK anaerobic digestion facilities.

Responsibilities and duties of the Biogas Maintenance Engineer role

Reporting To The Plant Manager You Will

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) using the site’s CMMS system.
  • Respond to plant breakdowns with effective fault finding and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults across a variety of process plant equipment.
  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term engineering solutions to recurring issues.
  • Maximise plant availability, reliability and overall equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, fault logs and work history within the CMMS.
  • Manage critical spare parts inventory and raise purchase requests when required.
  • Liaise with external contractors and coordinate specialist maintenance activities.
  • Assist the operations team with troubleshooting and provide operational support where required.
  • Provide holiday cover for site operations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with company Health & Safety procedures and engineering legislation including DSEAR, PSSR, PUWER and LOLER where applicable.
  • Support site audits and contribute towards continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to occasional out-of-hours callouts when required.

Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC or equivalent experience).
  • Proven maintenance experience within an industrial, manufacturing or process plant environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
