About the Role

Astute’s Renewable Energy team is partnering with a UK leading business in anaerobic digestion that provides cost-effective, low carbon, food and organic waste management. We are looking to recruit an experienced Biogas Plant Manager for their site in Hertfordshire.

The strategically important Plant Manager role comes with a salary of up to £60,000, life assurance, employer pension, and an additional benefits package.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will:

  • Optimise process plant operations
  • Manage feedstock processing and planning
  • Weekly and monthly reporting of plant efficiency, trends, and analysing data
  • Provide solutions to technical variances
  • Coordinate site maintenance and PPM
  • Be part of on-call and weekend shift cover
  • Be responsible for cost control and budgets
  • Manage external contractors when necessary
  • Draft RAMS and be accountable for HSE
  • Manage relationships with external bodies, such as the Environmental Agency
  • Manage on-site colleagues, such as Operators and Engineers
  • Capable of first line mechanical maintenance and raising more complex faults to an on-call team
  • Perform other duties as required

Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, such as chemical or mechanical, is an advantage
  • Mobile Plant (telehandler, loading shovel) licence or time-served experience
  • NEBOSH or willingness to train towards
  • WAMITAB or willingness to train towards
  • Full UK Driving Licence is essential

Personal Skills

The Biogas Plant Manager role would suit someone who is:

  • Experienced in anaerobic digestion or a similar heavy processing environment at a managerial or supervisory level
  • Hands-on and leads by example
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • A mentality towards continuous improvement and a genuine passion for the industry
  • Excellent people management skills
