Biomass Boiler Services Ltd (BBS) maintains, commissions, repairs, and installs industrial wood waste, biomass, and biomass steam boilers ranging from 150 kW to 16 MW. The company has been operating since 1987 and continues to support long-running installations, demonstrating strong reliability and technical expertise.
BBS works nationwide across the UK and Ireland and is open to projects further afield. The team serves a wide range of commercial and industrial sectors, including hospitals, schools, manufacturers, farms, distilleries, and district heating schemes.
With over 35 years of industry experience, BBS focuses on delivering safe, high-quality solutions tailored to each client’s energy and operational needs.
Role Description
This is a full-time remote role for a Biomass Boiler Engineer, involving travel to customer sites as required. The engineer will be responsible for commissioning, maintaining, and repairing industrial biomass and wood waste boilers, including fault diagnosis and performance optimization.

Day-to-day tasks include:
- Conducting routine inspections
- Completing service reports
- Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards
- Advising clients on best practices for efficient and safe operation
The role also involves:
- Supporting boiler installations
- Coordinating with internal teams and suppliers
- Responding to urgent breakdowns in a timely and professional manner
The engineer will work independently in the field while maintaining clear communication with the wider BBS team.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering skills, including experience with industrial boiler systems, pumps, valves, and control panels.
- Skills in diagnostics and troubleshooting, including fault finding on combustion systems, control systems, and associated instrumentation.
- Skills in maintenance and commissioning, including routine servicing, performance testing, and safe start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, including safe working practices around pressure vessels and combustion equipment.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, including clear service reporting and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

Relevant technical qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, NVQ, or degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or similar discipline) is highly beneficial.
- Experience with biomass or wood waste boiler systems, steam systems, or industrial heating plant is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel regularly, work independently on remote sites, and hold a valid driver’s license is required.
