The Role
Biomedical Scientists will process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Microbiology using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples. Provides advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales. Responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems. Acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training/supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.

In This Key Role, You Will
- Responsible as a state registered Biomedical Scientist for providing a high standard of patient care. Required to work independently.
- Adherence to policies and procedures relevant to all areas of work in accordance with Departmental, Directorate, Hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Validates and authorises clinical laboratory results, issuing reports/results to service users e.g. clinicians. Recommending further tests/actions when required with referral to more senior staff /Consultant as appropriate.
- Interpretation of results of routine and complex tests.
- Reporting critical or urgent results directly to clinicians/nursing staff with referral to more senior staff/Consultant where required.
What You'll Bring
- State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
- BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
- Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
- Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.
