Job Title
Band 5 Microbiology Biomedical Scientist
Job Overview
At University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, patients are at the centre of all we do. We are part of a modern laboratory within Derbyshire Pathology, a joint venture for Derby, Burton and Chesterfield, and this post may require cross-site working.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake day-to-day sample processing and analytical clinical investigations for Microbiology to the agreed standard of timeliness and quality.
- Supervise MLAs within their work area.
- Engage in training of staff.
- Fully participate in on-call and weekend duties.
- Familiarise and understand ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements, audit, and training/education techniques.
- Experience of utilising transformation methodologies to drive change and improve service delivery is desirable.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- IBMS Specialist portfolio or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- Demonstrable post-HCPC registration laboratory experience
- Specialist level knowledge in bacteriology
Desirable:
- Experience of troubleshooting
- Participation in on-call
- Experience in Parasitology
- Experience in Mycology
Skills:
- IT skills and keyboard skills
- Ability to apply knowledge to laboratory problems
- Good judgement and ability to problem solve
Essential:
- Knowledge of UKAS, HSE, and quality systems in a diagnostic laboratory
- Participates in continuous professional development
- Knowledge of laboratory health and safety
