Job Opportunity for HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Biochemistry team within Derbyshire Pathology, based at Queen’s Hospital Burton. We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our laboratory in a permanent part-time or full-time role.

Applications are welcomed from experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientists, and consideration will also be given to suitably qualified candidates for a Band 5 or Trainee Band 6 position, depending on experience and progress towards completion of the Specialist Portfolio.
Role Overview
Working within our busy Biochemistry department, you will play an important role in delivering a high-quality diagnostic service. A commitment to technical excellence, strong attention to detail, and a professional approach are essential for success in this role.
Laboratory Facilities
Our modern laboratory facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including the Roche Cobas 8100 automated workflow system, along with Roche ISE, c702 and e801 analysers, supporting a comprehensive and efficient diagnostic service.
Work Locations
The post will be primarily based at Queen’s Hospital Burton; however, flexibility to work across both Burton and Derby sites will be required to meet service needs.
Hours and Shifts
The role is currently funded for 31 hours per week, although there is potential for the post to be increased to 37.5 hours per week for the successful candidate if desired.

The successful candidate will be trained and competency assessed to join the 24/7 shift system; carrying out night, late, early, weekend and bank holiday shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Processing and Authorisation: Undertaking day to day sample processing and authorisation of clinical results in order to maintain agreed KPI’s.
- Supervision: Supervision of support staff.
- Service Development: Involvement in service development including quality management activities and various projects.
- Technical Skills: Experience and/or ability to work autonomously for long periods of time at varying start and finish times is essential. In the absence of experience, a commitment to proactively work towards this and an awareness of the requirements is needed.
Preferred Skills
- Software Proficiency: An aptitude with Microsoft Office programs is preferable.
- Experience: Experience of using Q-Pulse/Ideagen and WinPath would be an advantage.
